He had an interview last night an they just played it on the 750. He said he is exploring tons of treatment options and said dOnt be suprised if you see him in the court again. If he sits out this whole season he would become a restricted free agent. For the right price I would love for him to come back. Especially because I woul personally would still take Roy over any gaurd we have on this roster. Perfect 6th man

He's done, and just holding onto delusions of resuming his playing career.

    Is this the amnesty rule?

And someone mentioned he was restricted? How do we have any rights to him?

If he wanted to play again, why would he wait 3 years just so he could come to us?

At this point nobody knows when/how/if he could. what if he tries a procedure in a year that takes a long time to recover and be at full strength? I'm just saying.... Not sure everyone on this damn message board always has to nitpick so much.

I'm confused. Are we not eligible to resign him for another 3 years because we amnestied him?

I think the poster says 3 years because that's what Roy had left on this deal, so I'm thinking he must know of a rule that says if you amnesty someone, that you cannot re-sign them until their original deal is over. I haven't heard this rule, but it may exist (and again, I'm just guessing what the poster was meaning when he said we can't sign Roy for 3 years).

Here's an exerpt from an SI article:

Former Portland Trail Blazers guard, Brandon Roy, has thought about returning to the game after retiring prior to the 2011-12 season due to numerous knee injuries, according to ProBasketballTalk.

“It’s the truth. It’s really hard being so far away from the game. I spend time watching Jamal (Crawford) and following all of his games; Will (Conroy) and Tre (Simmons) are both doing their thing, so it’s driving me to wanna come back out there.” Roy told US Basket, “If the treatment I’ve been looking into can work, I believe there’s a good chance you will see Brandon Roy back hoopin’.”

Roy played in just 47 games last year due to knee issues. In 2009-10, he was limited to just 65 games for the Trail Blazers. Once considered one of the games rising stars, Roy ended his career after just six seasons.

Roy was a three-time All-Star, and the 2006-07 Rookie of the Year. Last season he averaged 12.2 points per game, 2.7 assists and 2.6 rebounds. His career average is 19 points per game, 4.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds.

Larry Coon says that you can not reacquire an amnestied player by signing or trading for the player for the years of the amnestied contract.

He wouldn't be. The Blazers waived him so they have no rights to him.

I am guessing he would be a UFA assuming he passed through all the silent auction processes.

This is why I didn't want to amnesty him. We would need to wait 3 years before we get him again. Oh well... Good luck BRoy! We know you aren't like Oden. You will actually work hard to get back on the court. Wonder which team he goes to?

Yep, now BRoy is forced to go to another team if he wants to play again. And if he wants to come back, he will. I bet he does well too.

and yet if he medically retired, we'd still have no rights to him, but we'd also have no cap space this offseason. That'd be worse.
