I LOVE Steve Nash. He's probably my favorite player in the league. But he's too old. I don't believe he would make us true contenders, so what's the point? I think this team needs to start over. ESPN is reporting Boston is shopping Rondo pretty hard: http://hoopshype.com/rumors/tag/rajon_rondo I am a little worried about any attitude problems, and he still can't shoot. But he is a great young point guard, which are very difficult to acquire. My guess is that it would take at least Batum to get him. And although he is my favorite Blazer, I think I would pull the trigger. Starting over around Rondo & Aldridge doesn't seem so bad to me.
I just am done with PGs that can't shoot. We've been plague with them since Damon left. I want a pg that can shoot more than defend. We need one that can contribute. I don't want rondo and I doubt he's even available. So what other shooting PGs are out there? And not combo guards. A true pg.
Rondo is Boston's best player, and he's young. Yet they are shopping him because his "personality is too high-maintenance and he clashes with the coach". He must be a total headcase IMO if they are willing to trade him. A players locker room pressence is under rated by fans IMO. Keep him away from the Trail Blazers please.
Rondo is not a player you can build around as your best player. Does ron artest, russell westbrook, steven jackson on the spurs, sheed on the pistons, or dennis rodman on any team ring a bell? You can make it work.
I actually agree with this. Something about Rondo that scares me. And to top it off, he can't shoot from anywhere outside 10 ft from the basket. We need a PG that can shoot from the perimeter IMO. In Boston, Rondo has Pierce, Allen and Garnett all very capable of shooting from the perimeter; which hides his inability. So now what happens if you put him on a team where no one has consistent accuracy from the perimeter? We would be toast!
We currently have a PG who can't shoot anywhere outside of 10 feet. At least Rondo can make a layup. And Rondo in the regular season gets bored. Rondo in the playoffs is a highlight reel.
And that is exactly my point. I've seen countless games where teams would back off of Felton and dare him to shoot in the 4th. Why bring in another player that is just a better version of Felton?
Young Jason Kidd was just a better version of Felton. At some point, talent matters more than player style. Rondo is about seven thousand times more talented than Felton (approximate values). You get Rondo as a foundational piece, you roster build to make it work, by acquiring complementary players. You don't do that for Felton, because Felton's talent doesn't warrant it.
I doubt we would have anything that would interest boston, but I would part with batum for him. He's not that much of a headcase. And he can do something almost no one else on this team is capable of: scoring in the paint. Which means he doesn't have to hit outside shots because teams teams have to collapse in the paint to guard where he can kick out to a wide open mathews to hit the open three. But like i said, I doubt we have anything boston would be interested in
I don't really care for Rondo's attitude, but he is one level below elite. Still, I wouldn't give up Batum or LA for him. Not that his talent level isn't close to Batum, but the idea is to improve the team talent level, not keep it the same. I'd give up Wallace & Crawford for Rondo.
Looking at his statistics, first thing that really jumps out is that he is only a 60% free throw shooter; for a guard who makes his living going to the basket that could hurt. And for some reason his steals have really fallen down this season, usually around 2.3 to 1.5. I guess I would be willing to take a chance on him if it didn't require Batum, and I'm guessing that from boston's viewpoint that would make it very unlikely.
I think this is the kind of player Allen might bite on. He doesn't want to rebuild. He has lost 2 of his big 3. Rondo showed he can put up big number and shine in playoffs. Rondo and LA together could elevate this team to another level. Yes he has attitude. And even scarier is Nate and Doc seem like similiar coaches so who doesn't see Rondo having a run in with Nate . . . although Rondo at times played his best during controversial times. But the only reason he is available is because of his attitude. Let's take advantage of it and put up with his attitude. Given the Blazers circumstances and fortunes, I think it is time to put character aside and take a shot here. Maybe Rondo matures, maybe he really takes a liking to Ptd, or maybe he is the same old Rondo (which isn't all bad) . . . it's LA's time and he needs another legit all star caliber player. I've been a character guy for many years, but things have changed and either rebulid or take big risks. If it takes Batum and others . . . well Batum and his potential is the only reason we we would have a shot at Rondo. Time to cash in?
Because of the word "better". (And saying Rondo is "just a better version of Felton" is like saying "LeBron is just a better version of Beasley".) (And if the number of games is "countless" for you, then you really need to watch more Sesame Street.)
If you're scared of Rondo's bad 'tude, then reunite him with his best pal in the whole wide world: (Should probably send Oden and Luke "The Next Larry Bird" Babbitt to Boston too.)
guys dont worry. We will sign deron williams because portland is much more desirable than brooklyn. We dont need elite players with bad attitudes, anyone will come to portland!!
Rondo's outside shooting hasnt improved. Makes me wonder if the guy puts in any work in the offseason to get better. That's his biggest weakness and he knows it, but does he care?
