The March Madness betting tournament is known as one in which anything can happen, as a ton of teams pull off shocking upsets annually. Entering the 2012 March Madness tournament, it appears as though power six conferences the Big 10 wants to get an early jump on surprising the college basketball betting world. This past weekend, thanks to dominant victories by the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines, the Big 10 regular season title, ended in a three-way draw. With the Big 10 title tournament acting as a prelude to the March Madness tournament, we’ll look today, at which of the three title holders is the best to risk your money with.

When determining whom the best of the three is, fans, media and handicappers, all have differing opinions. For instance, based on win loss, Ohio State deserves to be praised as the best, as they have the best record overall, at 25 and six. However, when looking closer at win loss, Ohio State’s bid is nullified, because they along with the two Michigan teams, have identical 13 and five records within the conference. Meaning to say, which Ohio State team are we supposed to believe in, the team that went 12 and one against the rest of the NCAA, or the bookie software team that finished 13 and five in the conference?

The second step to finding out which team is the best is looking at their rosters and using expert opinions. If we talk to colleagues at SI, CBS Sports and ESPN, they will all argue, that despite being destroyed by Ohio State, Michigan State deserves to be credited as the best team in the Conference. Draymond Green and Brandon Dawson, who make up one of the scariest, guard forward combos in the entire NCAAB, lead the Spartans. Green in particular, is a player NBA scouts have an eye on, as he leads the team in points per game at 16.2 assists three and a half and rebounds 10.3. What’s interesting is, that Green is putting up these defensive numbers, despite being one of the smallest guys on the team. While Michigan State has the best overall talent of the three schools in question, the fact the Spartans have lost three in a row, makes us question how good they truly are.

Thirdly, the Michigan Wolverines appear poised for another run in the March Madness tournament. Last season, the Wolverines almost upset the Duke Blue Devils, in the sweet 16, as they came within a missed basket in the final moments of the game, of pulling out a legendary victory. The Wolverines are still a very young team, as freshman Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. lead them along with lone senior, Zach Novak. The trio, have become a surprising catalyst to a Michigan team many people believed overachieved last season. This year, the Big 10 regular season title, has fans and media and handicappers such as us wondering, if this could be the best Wolverines team in the last decade?
