When did I ever say not to try a new coaching staff? Sure, try to get a better coach, try to get a stud teammate whatever. But holding onto aldridge after that stuff didnt work is dumb. No player should be untouchable.

Look im all for keeping aldridge if we can get him some help, he isnt a number one option on a championshi team, but if that doesnt work, you move him and start over

Also, Charles Barkley and Steve Nash were both traded just before they won their MVP awards. And don't tell me every one of the GMs making these deals got fired. That's just ludicrous and untrue.

Sure, as a final option, if Aldridge is starting to be a malcontent, we have fired the coaching staff, trainers, and traded all the players not playing well that we need to, and we're still bad in the long run, sure, we can trade Aldridge I guess.

Shaq was 32 when he was traded. Hardly his prime. Garnett was 31. Hardly his prime.

Well in Dallas, Cuban openly admitted that not resigning Nash was a huge mistake. And Charles Barkley, like Shaq, demanded a trade. Charles actually asked to go to Phoenix too.

Really? The year he was traded to the Heat he averaged 22.9 ppg and 10.4 rpg, made his 12th consecutive All-Star Team, and made the All-NBA 1st Team.

Uhh, he was on the decline though. Wasn't the finals MVP.

He had that MDE season (most dominant ever) season back in 02 or so.

and he kind of forced his own exit b/c of the kobe/shaq drama.

Nash was traded by the Suns to the Mavericks in 1998, after he'd been in the league for two years.

And he was 32. I don't care if he had a good year, he wasn't in his prime.

Sure was. Of course you said those guys were traded just before they won their MVPs. Nash didn't win an MVP in Dallas.

Okay, forget about comparing Aldridge to all those superstars and MVPs who got traded. He's not an MVP kind of player anyway.

Let's compare him to a bunch of other really good players who all got traded in their prime . . .

    Vince Carter
    Chris Webber
    Tim Hardaway
    Dikembe Mutombo
    Deron Williams
    Pao Gasol
    Carmelo Anthony
    Dominique Wilkins
    Ray Allen
    Jason Kidd

All of these guys were considered cornerstones of their teams at the time, just like Aldridge, but they were traded with the goal of making the team better.

Kidd, Webber, Hardaway, Melo and Williams all forced their way out. Carter left as a free-agent no? Mutombo, Wilkens and Allen were all past their prime when they were moved. And Gasol was dealt after 10 seasons in Memphis.

Anyways, to the point of the thread shooter, yeah, tons of people DO get traded in their prime. However, most of those teams made an attempt to build around their player, didn't work out great, and they moved him. And, most of those guys demanded out. This is the first year of making an attempt to actually build around Aldridge, without Oden or Roy in the mix. It seem slike you should give it an attempt before calling it a failure, IMO.
