We are fucked if we don't make a deal. Besides Aldridge and Batum; our talent pool will take a huge nose dive this summer. Well I guess I can say e will too. Crawford walks, g wall will probably stay, leaving us with only 4-6 mil in cap space. We need to make a decision before the deadline. Either we go in the direction of rebuilding and start trading players for picks or make a move to win now. Doing nothing will only hurt us. We won't have flexibility nor a winning percentage to entice free agents. In fact, we maybe the one destination teams will avoid like the plague. We gotta make a move! Trade for picks or trade for wins? Thoughts?
Actually, even if Wallace stays, we'll probably have about 13M in cap space. I broke it down a couple weeks ago here. That said, I agree with you. I think we're all on board for a rebuild at this point. If we can turn our not-so-dearly departing players into at least one promising young talent and a couple picks, we'll be much better off.
I hope we make a good trade, but I'm more worried that the organization will over react if we fire Nate and hire a lame coach like Mike D'Antoni. Offensive coachs don't ever win titles. Not that we are even close. I'm hoping for a extra pick with a trade, and hiring JVG, or Spolatra if the Heat don't win the title.
I just want a coach who knows how to develop a point guard, coach a fast break, run a pick an roll, and defend a pick and roll. We're a long way from worrying about whether said coach can win a playoff series.
Oh okay cool in terms of cap space. Im just tired of this Luke warm approach. There has to be a snl skit that hits the point.
We need to fire now. We will suck now and probably not make the playoffs, but at least we show direction.
I agree, except the coach needs to be a defensive minded coach. To take steps to win in a playoff series. I hope the Heat lose and we can hire Spolstra(sp). JVG if be would come, could teach our guys great position defense
Mags, the more this goes on the more I think this is all part of PA getting ready to sell this summer, if not then its simply utter fukkin incompetence at the ownership/mgmt level
Disagree, sign Nash or a first Rate point guard, another Big, possibly a good spot up shooter, throw in a summer of practice with a coach that knows how to run an offense and this squad could be much much better than they're playing.
If the players would act as if they know what they're doing out on the basketball court, this squad could be much, much better - and in fact it was just a few months ago. I know it's fashionable to act as if we have the least talented roster in the league, but that just isn't so.
I would agree with you until I remembered that the blazers are on the hook for the remainder of Roy's contract. That's an additional 16 mil of wasted money per year. Sounds small in comparison but it could be a deal breaker. I really think Portland has some shot at a good free agent. Maybe they believe in unicorns like I do.
If the players actually played like they have a shit, we would be much better than we are now. No pride, no heart and no leadership.
I think Wallace will exercise his option. I don't see why anyone would pay the dude 10M next year if he doesn't.
Yeah no way he gets a multi year worth more than 7 per. And I think he has another year to prove he's worth that much. Better risk to exercise, get your last payday and work hard for your next contract.
If he can get a lesser contract for a longer term (say a five year deal @7 or 8 per), he may take the jump. A long-term at a slightly lower rate is better than a short-term higher rate but unknown beyond that. Gramps...
5 year deals don't exist anymore with the new cba. Basically he can get a 3 year deal from anyone other than blazers and a 4 year with blazers. So what if it's 7 per x 3 years = 21 mil or exercise and get 10 mil, then get a 3 year for 5 mil. That's 25 mil.
