Who do you think is the better player overall in their prime?I definitly say Shaq...he played in an era where there were more big men and overall better playersWilt just towered over everybody and that's what made him so dominant...Shaq played in an era where there actually other players over 6'10 and more competition other than the Celtics :happy0144: that's just how I feel..and im sure others would disagree with me but...that's why we argue :nasty:
I disagree with you all right. First of all, great players are always great, no matter the era, so I think that Wilt would have been just as dominant now as in the 60s. Now then, I'm inclined to think that Wilt would win the battle. He had amazingly long arms, freakish athleticism, and was just about unmoveable. Of course, Shaq is the same thing, but I would be inclined to go with Wilt because he had more post moves, especially an unblockable fadeaway.
My pick goes to Wilt. The Man is the most dominant player to ever play in the nba IMO.The man scored 100 points! And has had his jersey retired with 5 different teams.
the sixtys there were no shot clock there were not to many tall ppl back then the 2 guard slot was for ppl 6'2 back then so wilt dominated
You can't compare two players in different era's really. But if you mean success and domination in the NBA then it goes to Wilt. He averaged like 50 points and 20 rebounds one season. He was just unstoppable. Shaq was great in the 90's and early 00's, but no one was and no one will ever be as dominate as Wilt.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>the sixtys there were no shot clock there were not to many tall ppl back then the 2 guard slot was for ppl 6'2 back then so wilt dominated</div>Nice grammar and spelling. :happy0144: FYI the shot clock was adopted in the NBA in the 1954-55 season, fully 6 years before Wilt Chamberlain ever played in the NBA.
Who cares about his grammar and spelling, seriously, it's not english class, you can understand what he's saying, it doesn't really matter if he puts a comma or apostrophe in his post
If they played while they were both in their primes, there is no doubt in my mind that Shaq would absoloutley dominate Wilt. Shaq is the most overpowering figure in NBA history and when he was in his prime, there wasnt a damn thing anybody could do to stop him besides hack a shaq. When wilt was playing, the average guy that was guarding him couldnt have been taller than 6 8 or maybe 6 9. Players just werent as tall back then. Imagine Shaq in his prime if he was guarded by a 6 9 or a 6 8 player. Forget about it. Also, the competition level wasnt near as high. If you arent smart enough to see that, you have no clue what you are talking about. As the game has gotten newer, players have gotten more athletic and their skill set has gotten higher. Thats just the way that things are. It is obvious though that for their era's Wilt was the better player. You cant argue against a guy that averaged over 50 and 20

Shaq. Wilt was around 7'2'', while the average height of players in that era was 6'9''. He also outweighed opponents by a ton, and was lightyears ahead of the competition in terms of athelticism. That is basically like putting Tim Duncan against an unathletic SG/SF in the post. It just wasn't fair. Not to mention games were played at MUCH faster pace, with defenses that were not nearly as complex as today's defenses. There was also no 3 second rules, and the game was just buiolt for Wilt.Shaq is playing against players as big, or bigger than him. There are hundreds of players in the world, many in the NBA, that have 40 inch vertical jumps and can block a Shaq teardropper in the paint anyday. There are coaches that are defensives masterminds that can build defenses to stop Shaq, or at least slow down Shaq. With all of that, Shaq comes out the winner for me. 4 championships, and despite the much tougher competition, still was a 30/12 guy in his career. Still totally dominated everything put in front of him, which was a lot tougher than what Wilt had to go through. Shaq is the far more talented player, more agile, yet also larger and stronger. If they played 1 on 1, or were put on 2 teams with same level of talent on each team, Shaq would win each time.
