Yeah, it's definitely nice to acquire a guy who is battling something other than knee injuries.

So, to recap on the guys we acquired: one is a guy with a hip issue (likely healed), one has a heart problem (Thabeet is rumored to be super-lazy), one has back issues (Okur, who will never suit up for Portland), and the last has foot, knee, and shoulder issues (Williams, who had foot surgery and will never play here).

Sounds about par for the course!

    Thats what she said....

But, seriously, I'm really optimistic about Flynn.

A 13 PER on 24.2 Usg isn't "very well", IMO. Although Flynn did have a WS/48 of .002 that year, which was the best of his career.

I'd play him extensively, though, just so Operation Tank can continue.

A 13 PER as a 20 year old rookie PG? I'll take it. Its better than Nash, Parker or Billups ever did.

(and no I'm not implying Flynn will ever be as good as the 3 I just mentioned)

A 24.2 USG rate for a 13 PER PG? Um, no thanks. Look, I wish the kid well, but he's not suddenly going to learn how to shoot the ball at an NBA level. The only player that keeps this team from becoming the 2004-05 Blazers is LMA at this point, and with a 33 year-old coach, and Crawford playing for a contract, I just don't see a lot of shots for LMA over the next month. Crawford was already averaging a career high 16.8 FGA/36, and that was before the AV Guy took over as "coach".

you do realize he was an assistant coach, before he took over, right?

He was a glorified ball shagger who cut videos. If the idea is to win games, you don't put Kaleb Canales in charge of the team. Maybe he'll be some great NBA coach someday, but as of now, it seems to be Crawford and Felton basically doing as they please, which is to be expected since they want contracts and have no allegiance at all to AV Guy.

What is their contract status? Did someone say Flynn would be a RFA or a UFA after this season?

Nate wouldn't let them do as they please and we were a much better team because of it....

If either of those work out even reasonably well we hit paydirt. As far as I'm concerned we traded Camby as a salary dump.

Judging by the way Canales is handling rotations they'll probably get some minutes, but I wouldn't get your hopes too high. They're committed to getting Nolan time at the one and Thabeet is going to have to drastically improve over what he's shown so far in his career to get any time at all.

They are both unrestricted. I'm curious if we got their bird rights though. What if they blow up? Do we have any advantage on keeping them?

They should play Thabeet instead of Thomas.

We're not going to need "bird rights" to re-sign these two. We'll be 20 million under the cap. Thabeet already has one foot out of the NBA and Flynn's stock is pretty low.
