And we get Karma points too. The whole "uncertainty" shit bothers me. It's this odd dark cloud when it comes to Roy and Oden. We never knew anything until the very last minute. Then is was like "Hey guys, FYI Roy isn't going to start, he's retiring" or "We stand behind Oden and are hopeful that he will return next season" then next season "Oden has complications and he's out again, but we will see him again fans... Renew your tickets" to "Blazers waive Oden" LOL!
I never said we should retire Roy's number because he gave his body to the franchise. That was Hail. When Oden did the things Roy did for this team as a leader, allstar and team MVP; then you have a point. Until then, Oden was a complete failure.
Too many others that have more points, rebounds, assists and games played for the franchise that do not have their number retired.
It's not about the stats MM. Hell look at who are retired already? Roy changed this franchise from being a shit hole of a place to play, to a darling of the NBA. But hey, you don't want him retired, then you are completely entitled to your opinion. I am just going to have to strongly disagree.
And yet nobody can remember their names. Brandon Roy and what he did for this franchise will never be forgotten, especially once they retire his number.
He walked out and just tried to sit in his seat. Fans spotted him and went nuts! He was pointing to all the guys on the Blazer bench.
Remind me again what he did for this franchise. It appears to be the same shithole it was the day we drafted him, we never got out of the first round with him leading the team, and we're now the same laughing stock lottery team we were after blowing up the team 9 years ago. He was probably one of the 10 best players we've had, but he took us nowhere and accomplished nothing.
Hmmm, let's see... Rookie year: ROY, Rookie Allstar game, +11 wins 2nd Year: Allstar selection, +9 wins 3rd Year: Allstar selection, +9 wins, playoff birth, 4th seed 4th Year: Allstar selection, playoff birth,
Towards the end of the 3rd quarter I yelled "Put Roy in!" and 4 people turned around and high five'd me.
That smile is freaking infectious. I half expected the team to catch fire just after he was shown like they did here: To all you haters who don't recognize what he did for this franchise, watch that video. And realize that he was coming off of serious surgery that was done just 8 days prior. He gave his body for this team and city. Where we are now and how successful we were with him is all irrelevant. He made this team watchable again.
Sorry, this franchise has already gone too far with jersey retirements. Loved everything Brandon did for us, but you gotta give me something more than a few first round playoff exits in order to make it into the rafters.
Maybe for you. I found the Roy years boring to watch, with the notable exception of the last minute in close games. He was certainly the master in those situations. I prefer an exciting uptempo game, which he pretty much prevented by his insistence on monopolizing the ball.
Probably the highest high I've ever experienced at the Rose Garden, maybe you had to be there, but it was definitely one of the Greatest Blazer Moments in History. Rocky Theme music mixed with Roy's unimaginable return was truly Epic.
