Why don't we do it the cheap way? Just get a coach who can manufacture good guards out of mediocre ones. You know, like when Phoenix gave up on Dragic and sent him to Houston coaches Adelman and McHale.
I didn't watch Dragic a lot when he was in Phoenix, but of the 7 - 10 times I did see, I was impressed. I think he was good before he got to Houston.
Obviously the key with Dragic is can sustain that level of play? Because if he can then I cant imagine how he isnt worth a great payday. Im sure there would be a drop over the course of a full season. There are very few if any "complete" PG's in the league so you have to pick which stats are the best suited and most important for your team. The quickness, the outside shooting and assist ability would be great for this team but how is his defense (I'd settle for average at this point after watching you know who) and maybe even more importantly how are his entry pass skills and ability to run the team? Can he get LMA and Batum the ball in the right places? One thing we do know is that he can run an uptempo style. Another things about him is that he clutch. Has proven that he can hit the big shot a few times. We need that. How are his stats in relation to his current team's tempo, pace, coach and playing style? Which brings up another point, with all this said he would be an absolute waste with the wrong coach. I like his game and always have. I think he is a great back plan and unfortunately he is going to be some other teams first option. This is one of those "gamble" that some posters on here feel like a team has to take to get to the next level. This is also one of those situations that make me REALLY REALLY hope that we have a legit shot at D-Will or Rondo cuz if we dont we are going to be way behind in the game for good options like Dragic. PS I like that he is a lefty. Every advantage helps.

Clearly option 1 is for LaMarcus to try and convince Deron to come here ... which feels like a fool's errand, but hey it's worth a shot. Dragic would be a solid plan B.

I think it depends on the system too. McMillan hated turnovers, played cautious, and didn't run as much as a lot of teams. A guy like Nash, for example, tries a lot of "high risk, high reward" type passes. He's really good at them - and they often end in easy buckets - but those that don't get through are turnovers. Felton just dribbles the ball off his foot.
