Deal near on third point guardBy Art GarciaStar-Telegram Staff WriterThe Mavericks are on the verge of filling their third point guard slot by trading for Indiana veteran Anthony Johnson, league sources confirmed Saturday night. The Mavs are sending free-agent guard Darrell Armstrong and forwards Josh Powell and Rawle Marshall to the Pacers in a deal that has been agreed upon but can't be completed until NBA offices open Monday.Johnson (6-foot-3, 200 pounds), a 10-year veteran, averaged a career-high 9.2 points and 4.3 assists last season, starting 53 games with the Pacers. He averaged 20 points and 5.2 assists in six playoff games last season. Johnson, 31, has two years left on his contract for $2.64 million and $2.86 million.Armstrong joined the Mavs during the 2004-05 season. As a free agent, he's agreed to a new contract to facilitate the sign-and-trade arrangement. With a third point guard behind Jason Terry and Devin Harris settled, the next priority for the Mavs is adding another swingman or reserve power forward. The Mavs have approximately $2 million remaining from the mid-level exception, a $1.75 million biennial exception and the ability to use Keith Van Horn in another sign-and-trade.Among available swingmen, Devean George and Fred Jones could be in the team's price range. Power forward Reggie Evans is another option.
Um, shouldn't this have gone into the other thread? You basically made two threads now. Good trade, I don't mind the additions of Rawle and Powell. It was obvious their had to be fillers. Now we can actually go out and bring in a quality swing instead of waiting. This will allow Dallas to possibly start Harris and Terry.
u could prob get rawle of poweel back they'll most likley be realeased from the pacers since there contracts arent guraenteed yet
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Johnson is also affectionately referred to by several Pacer fans as "Beetlejuice" or "The Juice." This nickname is a product of Johnson's seemingly identical appearance to that of the Beetlejuice (entertainer) character who regularly appears on the Howard Stern show.</div> :HAHAHA: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>u could prob get rawle of poweel back they'll most likley be realeased from the pacers since there contracts arent guraenteed yet</div> I'll pass on both, I rather have Pops and a free pickup like Jumaine Jones or Devean George then those two. Marshall is not that good, I watched him in summer league, the only reason he shows potential is because he jacks it up. He's skinny and a lot of the contact that's getting him to the line won't on the NBA level. If he puts on weight, and learns how to finish. He might at best be a good bench player. Pops straight up beat Powell for his roster spot this year in summer league. It's no surprize to see him gone. Not saying Pops is a definite to roster but he should be now.
pops got an invite along with jackson vroman i love jumaine jones he's solid at everything he does he doesnt have a tru weakness but deavan hasnt lived up to expectations of being a 1st rounder
Yeah he wouldn't be bad as a 3rd string small forward. It looks like though Dallas is overloaded at the 2 and Buckner wasn't needed considering now we have Anthony Johnson. Still another body to put on Wade. Dallas has many lineups they can throw at other teams now.

But the only way I see a glut is if your counting Ager. I'm not, I think Buck/Stack can rotate to the 3 as well and give us size at the 2. Ager is more a of Stack replacement when he leaves, expect him to dleague with his time. Also, whoever we add next, will at best be behind Buck and Stack. And only for emergency issues. I believe the Star Telegram said it best. A 5th swing. Maybe Marshall comes back, who knows but I don't see a glut, especially with Buck, Stack, Harris(with his style) are known to get hurt during the regular season.
You're asking for even more players? There isn't enough time in one game to fit in 12 or 13 players. Your team is perfect you greedy bastard... I'm sad.

Sorry, I'm done with my crying. If you guys do get another shooting guard then I will ball my eyes out though. You guys got 9 guys now that scare me by the time the playoffs come. Not entirely unbeatable but the best team without a doubt right now.

Suns are right there but they have a lot of ?'s on the team and they need to sign another legitimate back-up big.
PG Harris/A. JohnsonSG Terry/Stackhouse/AgerSF Howard/StackhousePF Nowitzki/CroshereC Diop/Dampier/MbengaI'll say 11 deep. Possibly 12 if we sign Devean George.
Ager is the half because you never know with rookies especially in the playoffs and he wasn't picked too high either. And I don't consider Mbenga very good at all. Not yet at least, he could be good later on but I don't consider him much of a threat in the playoffs. He also has 2 better centers ahead of him. I'd put in Piatkowski and Marks if you were gonna do that. Hah.........If you guys sign George then i'll be scared though.

Zona, you should have read what a couple Spurs and Rocket fans said on realgm boards. Rockets fans in particularly because their still out for a backup pg. We basically got AJ for free and their pissed off. Also, about adding more guys, hey it's a upgrade business, we need to upgrade our backup sf and George fits the bill. He comes cheap too, since we have 2 mil left of the MLE for him. I already think Pops is a lock for the third string pf spot. Get George and be done with it. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>PG Harris/A. He should be behind Terry. Lol you seem to be having trouble with him, Butler?
Oh yeah I forgot about him too. That'd be 10 1/2 deep now. I hate you guys. Rotations do go down in the playoffs but you guys won't really lose much if anyone besides Dirk is injured. Suns have good depth with guards but they will still be in trouble if either of the starters gets injured. Marion is too important and same with Amare and Kurt. Diaw is good at center but Kurt's D is too important for us. AHHHH, just gotta get some luck on our side this season with injuries. That's possible, they can cut down the starters minutes a lot during the regular season with Banks now.
