<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Buckner is a pretty nice shooter also. He's not too bad at all. He's a better version of Griffin.</div> Yea and younger/quicker then Griff. On Ager, he hasn't really done anything yet in this league and Buckner was our major free agent acquisition(since he got pretty much most of the MLE). He should be ahead of Ager on the depth chart easily.
We'll see but I wouldn't be surprised if Ager outplays Buckner consistently by the end of the year. Ager is a really good shooter as shown in the summer league.

Yeah ok. I just think that training camp should decide who is starting and etc. They shouldn't decide beforehand and discourage someone like Ager. If Ager shows rapid improvement and looks better than Buckner than why not?

I just think that training camp should decide who is starting and etc. They shouldn't decide beforehand and discourage someone like Ager. If Ager shows rapid improvement and looks better than Buckner than why not?</div> For example, Josh Powell was said to have been doing well in training camp and in practices but was a different story come game time. Right now even if Ager does well in camp, it doesn't show anything. Because that's simply not actual games. Also, I don't get why your writing off Buckner with a rookie. Your last sentence has no regard, because right now he isn't. If he does, he will but right now it ain't likely. Stop being so biased towards young players. This is like when you expected Daniels to play over Stack in the playoffs.
And he thinks Harris should start right now, and I still don't think he's the starting PG for the Mavs...not yet anyways.I think it's still like thisPG - Terry/Harris/JohnsonSG - Buckner/Stack/Ager/HarrisSF - Josh Howard/StackPF - Dirk/CroshereC - Diop/Damp/MbengaNice lineup right now...but yeah, adding George or a capable young guy from the summer league would be nice.
Umm, no he wouldn't.Stack is the 6th man, and would only start if there were injuries...he can't hold up for a whole game.So the depth chart at the 2 guard is Buckner then Stack, just like it's Josh Howard then Stack at the 3. But then you got Ager and definately Harris who'll get tons of playing time at the SG position.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (theaftermath770 @ Jul 24 2006, 05:12 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>stack would start over buckner</div>Uh.. no he wouldn't. If Avery has any smarts he would be kept on the bench as a waterboy. I see him as being used as a 6th man as he has these last 2 years.
Neither did Doug Christie but that didn't stop Avery from starting him. Stackhouse is the last person to start. I'd say Harris would be second choice.
Harris will play tons of minutes, along with Terry, at the same time. But he won't start...not yet.Buckner was brought in to take over Griffin's role, and I think he'll be better to begin with.

I expect another big jump going into his 3rd season. He's a smart kid and I expect him to be starting, if not at beginning of season, then shortly thereafter.
Aftermath you don't know what your talking about with the Stack situation. He will not start regardless, even in injury cases. We started Marshall for 7 games just because Avery likes Stack coming off the bench. If it comes down to it, Buck would start over Stack, no questions asked. But I plan on seeing Harris/Terry now just because of the Johnson trade. The guy isn't a third string pg, he'll get minutes. Only way we can balance all three pg minutes is exactly starting Harris/Terry just like we did to end the season/playoffs. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>then devin and terry we'll start not buckner he wont show much in traing camp</div> Training camp is for players like Ager, Pops, not veterans. We know what they will bring to the table.
For Mavs' new guard, the point is 'D'Anthony Johnson gladly accepts role as defensive stopper01:30 AM CDT on Wednesday, July 26, 2006By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning NewsAnthony Johnson let loose with a big laugh as he considered the question that every Mavericks fan would like to ask.Sadly, when it comes to guarding Dwyane Wade, the physical point guard can't provide any better answer than the Mavericks had for Miami's superstar in the NBA Finals. But he's willing to do his part to find a solution."I feel very good about matching up with most of the point guards in the NBA," Johnson said Tuesday. "With Dwyane Wade, you're not going to stop him one-on-one. It's a team defense with him. But against most scoring guards, I'm comfortable going against them."Johnson ? acquired by the Mavericks on Monday in a trade for Darrell Armstrong, Josh Powell and Rawle Marshall ? said he's looking forward to helping the defensive seeds that were planted in the Mavericks last season to blossom. His reputation as one of the stickiest perimeter defenders is what drew the Mavericks to him, as well as his ability to distribute the basketball. For the record, Wade, who scorched the Mavericks in the Finals, averaged 27.3 points, 7.0 assists and 8.3 rebounds in three meetings against Indiana last season. But Johnson played sparingly in two of the games and not at all in the third. He figures to make more of an impact here as the backup point guard behind Devin Harris."I know they like to play two point guards as much as possible and in our league these days, you have to have somebody who can defend the bigger point guards," Johnson said. "I feel like I fit that description. Defense is probably what I'm known for."And his offense came around last season in the playoffs, when he averaged 20 points in a first-round series against New Jersey. That won't be his role with the Mavericks. But he's confident he can find ways to help at both ends of the floor, as is the team's other A.J., coach Avery Johnson."We wanted a bigger point guard who could defend as well as run the team, and Anthony can do that," the coach said.Anthony Johnson, who's 6-3, said his spirits have rocketed after three years in Indiana. He looks at the Mavericks as a team on a different growth curve."In Indiana, our season progressively ended earlier after going to the conference finals a few years ago," he said. "Two years ago, we made it to the second round and last year, we were out in the first round."With the Mavericks, I'm joining a team that is going further every year. Hopefully, I can help them continue that."Briefly: Shooting guard Jason Terry made it official Tuesday, signing his six-year contract worth about $50 million. ... The Mavericks are looking into the possibility of hiring Popeye Jones to join the player-development staff. Jones and Avery Johnson are close friends. The Mavericks' all-time leading scorer is now a member of the team's front office. Rolando Blackman has been promoted from assistant coach to director of basketball development, a new position. President of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said Blackman's international experience would be critical. Blackman, a 47-year-old native of Panama who scored 16,643 points in 11 seasons with the Mavericks, played in Greece and Italy at the end of his career.Staff Writer Tim MacMahon contributed to this report.E-mail esefko@dallasnews.comhttp://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...an.22f6d2b.html
