TSN - According to a report in the Toronto Sun, the Raptors are closing in on a deal with shooting guard Fred Jones. Jones, who won the 2004 slam dunk contest, averaged 9.7 points per game for the Indiana Pacers last season. Though he is a fantastic athlete, he is a suspect shooter. Jones has a career shooting percentages of 41.5% from the field and 35.0% from three-point range. Because Jones is a restricted free agent, the Pacers have the right to match any offer he receives. The Raptors had a five-year, $23-million deal in place for Sixers free agent John Salmons, but the versatile swingman backed out.
Good signing, a lot better than House who I expected them to sign after Salmons. Jones would be a good back-up or starter for them. Salmons was just an idiot not to take the Suns or Raptors offers but both teams survived by signing someone better.
I like this guy. Wow, that was a quick recovery by Colangelo though .. I think he would be pretty nice to be our backup SG. He can shoot quite well, and most importantly, defend. Would fit right in with our run and gun offense... Also, more electrifying dunkers wouldn't hurt

hahaha. You obviously know nothing about the guy. When the Pacers were left short-handed due to injuries and suspensions a few years ago, Jones came up huge. And he's not just a scorer. He's a spark plug, he's a decent defender and ballhandler.
i no enough he went to oregon was left as a senior went 14th he's really closer to 6'2 then 6'4 he did play effictive 2 years ago he's very inconsistent tho he'll give you 16 , one night and give u 4 points another he must not be to great if indiana going to let there younger guys take his spot and let him go for nothing but he didnt fit with the pacers , Like i said earlier he is in for a big year with the raps but he's not consistent on the bench he plays better as a starter
YES! Colangelo is a f*cking genius. This guy is athletic, he can shoot, score, play defense. He is great, and a big improvement from John Salmons. I bet John Salmons will be missing his money he would be getting here. Welcome aboard Fred.Eat this, Colangelo doubters!

For all we know Indiana can match the offer, or demand something crazy in return.
yeah I wouldnt be jumping out of my seat just yet because remember what happened when we "got" Salmons? Anyways Fred Jones should be a nice additon with some dunks to dazzle the fans. I find it funny how everyone is all super excited for Jones coming to Toronto when the Raptors signed like 2 time euroleague MVP Parker and other European standouts, but when an American player, who has only accomplished winning the dunk contest in his NBA career is signed, everyone goes nuts like he will turn the franchise around...I dont understand. If anything Parker, Garbajosa, Uros will have a larger effect on the Raptors franchise.Oh well, im not knocking on Fred Jones, im pretty happy hes coming(not 100%) to the Raps as we need a little less 3's and more dunks.
That's because no one knows how Euro players will turn out. No one here has seen Parker play before, so they can't be thrilled until they are shown proof of what he can do.But I have seen that Parker has some great all around stats, and Im excited to see what he can do. Hopefully he can play well for us out there..
Maybe it's just me but im more excited to see how those Euro's we got playAll Euro linePG: CalderonSG: Parker (hes really american)SF: GarbajosaPF: SlokarC: Nesterovic

Colangelo has really done a good job already making this a complete team.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BigMo763 @ Jul 24 2006, 12:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I know you're excited and all, but atleast wait till he's OFFICIALLY a Raptor.
