That one play where Westbrook crossed him over SO BAD was kind of embarrassing. He just sort of headfaked and Flynn went flying out of his way without Westbrook actually having to do anything. "Thanks!" he said, and sauntered to the rim for a layup. After that, I sort of got the impression that Westbrook was jawing with him because Flynn's intensity picked up. What drives me crazy is that none of our PGs will go to the hoop in transition. Even if there's only one guy back for the other team, they pull up and then wait for the defense to set up so we can prove ONCE AGAIN how stagnant our half court offense is.
IMO it's too bad he is out and he's an SG but I think Ewill could be more effective at PG than anyone except felton
Agree mostly, except he didn't seem to use his quickness very much. And I don't want to rate consistency of a jumper after one game.
Having seen Elliot, I have to disagree. I know he actually started over Nolan at PG at Duke, but I think you can get away with that shit on the college level. There is nary a PG bone in Elliot's body. He's sort of Shannon Brown (another failed attempt at making a PG out of someone just because they're short). Which is okay, and he's certainly nearer an actual NBA player than any of our PGs (except maybe the thin one in Felton trying to get out).
and he makes lots of mistakes for a 3 year pro He might be worth keeping as a 3rd stringer. But for now I woudl liek to see more time for Smith. I think he has more composure and a better shot. But we shall see.
Flynn just strikes me as someone who has been screwed up by so many different coaches trying to change him into something he is not. Killed his confidence and trust in his own instincts. If he can regain that sense of self and work hard, he could be pretty good. But most likely an average backup is all.
Almost all "agree" except the defense part ... right now it's just "don't play defense" ... I don't think he'll ever be an all-world defender given his stature and it doesn't help that he grew up in Boeheim's zone, but maybe he can become a "pest" defender in the mold of Barea, but he's got a loooong way to go. I think I'd be perfectly happy to see the Blazers sign him to a modest contract this off-season to be a backup, because I think he can set an offense and actually run a pick and roll.
Give this kid minutes and he will be more and more comfortable on the floor. I noticed once he felt more comfortable, he was driving at the rim and finishing.
we are so PG "starved" that a guy has one "decent" game and we start taliking of contracts, guys lets relax and see what he can do the rest of the way, I have been disappointed so many times I simply need to see a lot more to believe at all
I probably should have added the caveat to my post above that if he can produce at about the level he showed a flash of last night consistently for the rest of the year, he'd be a nice 2-3 million dollar player off the bench.
