No matter how bad management can get, I can at least take solace in the fact that they aren't as deluded as you.
How many times did your parents say the same about you? They need to start treating Batum like a true second option so that he can become one. The rest of this forgotten season is the perfect opportunity. If you elevate your expectations for someone and push them to expand, they can become more than their current state, it's called teamwork.
that sums it up well I think, now what is he worth to pay in a new contract? that's what concerns me, should be pd 7-8 mil per, may get a dumb offer at 11 mil - what do we do then?
If that's what needs to happen then there's a bigger problem with Batum than we think. That said, he's just a role player and not really much of a building block. I'm ready for something new. His defense isn't even that great anymore (his agility/lateral quickness has always been average/just OK.)
So, If I understand correctly, some people hate Batum because they think he's going to get paid too much this summer? Why not let the market decide before getting our panties in a bunch? I don't think Batum is the kind of player who is going to take over games by himself. If someone is waiting for him to do that, they are in for a long wait. I do think he is a player who would excel in the right situation, and that includes playing with a decent fucking point guard and a coach who uses him to his strengths and gives him a useful assignment while he's on the court.
I don't expect Batum to ever be an all star. But I do expect him to consistently rate an 18+ per while guarding the other teams best wing player every night. Would that make him above average?
Batum wants 9 million per yr. So yes its fucking ridiculous for him to want that. He shouldnt get pd much more than a wilson chandler. You dont pay 9 million a year in this cba for a 4th option
I was wondering about this the other day. Everyone keeps saying he wants $9mil/yr. I don't remember where that number came from. Did his agent say that? Someone at the Blazers? A reporter with inside information?
Kenny vance stated that at the meet and greet I guess it was a reason we didnt come to terms on an extension
Thanks. That's even a little rich for my blood. I hope they sign him for less, or do a S&T. If he keeps playing the way he has, one would hope the market and the new CBA will set his price lower.
Ive mentioned before that if/when we can get our team back to a level of serious contention he is exactly the kind of "glue player" that every championship team needs. And that comes as a bonus because he is much more skilled at that glue position that most of those players tend to be. I think he still has some room to improve. If he was played more consistently and correctly (thats on the coach) and played more aggressively (thats on him) i think that he COULD be a #2 option but I would hope that on a championship caliber team that he would be a great #3 option with the ability to have the occasional #1 option kind of game. So with that said Im willing overpay a little but not a lot.
This. Batum is unfortunately our second best player. He is not a No. 2 on a contender though. With the right team, he is a No. 3 or at least damn good No. 4. Since it takes more than 2 players to field a team, I say we keep him. He is a rich man's 'glue guy'. Seriously, without Bobby Gross, the Blazers wouldn't have a championship. The market will determine what Batum's worth, not message board geeks.
