Russell Crowe is a dick, but a pretty good actor. Don Cheadle, Kevin Spacey, Samuel L., Edward Norton, and, I hate to say this, but Brad Pitt, are pretty good, too. Part of being a good actor (or maybe just a smart one) is knowing when to stay away from a script, I'd say.

The Halle Berry incident happened in the early 90's, he supposedly he hit her hard enough that he damaged her eardrum. I think if you searched it, you could find it. Also, it's not a secret he's hard to work with as a actor, just like Val Kilmer.
