You never saw Nate coming up with stuff like this! http://rmirror.net/r/videos//comments/ror70/half_court_alleyoop_out_of_a_shotgun_formation/
What about 10 seconds? Looks like they should have been called for having the ball in the backcourt too long... Sloppy officiating letting a team get away with a play because it was otherwise a highlight-worthy novelty. Just like the NBA.
Too bad is was an 8 second violation. It took the white team over 10 seconds to advance the ball past the half court line. It should have been black ball, no basket. They even had the refs hipnotized. BNM
I looked at it a second time and it was really close. The ref started counting late and then stopped counting when the ball was passed forward.
You can see (as others have talked about) it was over 10 seconds in the back court. Also, the receiver was moving forward at the time of the snap. Good defense, though, wasn't it? :| Ed O.
The 10 seconds starts as soon as the guy catches it off the tip-off. Watch the clock. The clock is at 7:50 before it moves out of vision, and the player has the ball another 1.5 seconds.
Props to the white kid with some hops, though. He doesn't look that tall to me, so it's gotta be the hops. Or the shoes.
I watched the timer on the video. The kid catches the tipped ball in the backourt at the 6 second mark and doesn't pass it until around 16 or 17. It's at least 10 seconds (more like 10.5 or 11). Clearly more than 8 seconds. It should have been a violation. BNM
Damn, and here I was getting all excited thinking maybe Chip Kelly could be the next coach of the Blazers.
I know. Looking at the video time, he caught the ball at :06 or :07 then threw it forward at :17, which would make it a violation. In the end it only matters what the ref calls and he certainly wasn't expecting a frigging shotgun formation off the opening tip.
meh, this was more impressive
It only matters what the ref called if you think the ref is infallible. It should have been a 10 second violation based on the game clock, which you can see in the video itself (you don't have to rely on the video time). If it was not then that means that the ref made a mistake. Ed O.
Blazers need to put this play into their repertoire
