Could this be enough to get Rondo?

Portland's pick, Babbitt, Matthews and Nolan Smith for Rondo?

I was thinking if we can't land Deron Williams (Everyone thinks it's a pipe dream). And maybe we don't get Nash (Because he's too old). Rondo seems like he could be had if we give up Babbitt, Matthews, our pick (11th) and Smith. It will help them in their re-build because they get a bunch of younger players.

Then I would try to get Josh Smith 12 mil per (Plays very good defense and rebounding and SF). Then try and pick up Jason Terry for 8 mil per. Then we try and pick a Drummond with the #5 pick (If he is available). Resign Hickson for 6 mil per and Batum for 9 mil per - 15 mil (Doesn't matter if we are over cap because they are "Bird Right Players". Resign Johnny Flynn to a 2.5 mil contract. Try and resign Pryzbilla for vet min.

So all the players are: Batum, Aldridge, Rondo, Josh Smith, E Will, Hickson, Terry, Drummond, Flynn, Thomas, Craig Smith and Pryzbilla.

Starting line-up: PG: Rondo, SG: Batum, SF: Josh Smith, PF: Hickson, Center: Aldridge.

Key Reserves: E Will, Flynn, Drummond, Craig Smith, Thomas and Pryzbilla.

I like the ideas but 3 questions:

    1) Can smith play the 3 effectively? i kinda always thought he was more of a 4
    2) Does the money work on all of that?
    3) Is there a lack of ball handling in the starting line-up?

If you were Danny Ainge would you take that deal? You can pile garbage all the way to the ceiling and it's still garbage.

The only player of interest would be the 12-11th draft pick and that aint enough.

Its not enough. I think if you swapped picjs and gave them a #5 or 6 they might think about it. Would depend on if ainge really wants to blow it up and/or doesnt think rondo is a piece he can build around

You know, I would think it was garbage earlier this season, but Babbitt has shown he can shoot from anywhere. He also is good at rebounding and defense for a SF. Matthews is a good defender and decent shooter. I think he just had issues at the beginning of the season as well. Nolan Smith is garbage, IMO. But he does play PG and he seems he would work well in a River's system. The pick is what's valued the most.

Yeah it seems like Boston could get better offers for Rondo, but it's not as "crap" as you think.

    Babbitt good at defense?!?

Seriously, he sucks on defense. Slow on rotations, gets lit up.

Just draft Austin and then hold him for ransom, the price being Rondo.

If we offered NJ pick and it was top 6 along with Babbit/Mathews they would think about it. If there not blowing it up they wont' trade Rondo and I don't see another team giving them as good of an asset as that pick (unless a fringe playoff team that misses like Houston/Jazz get in the top 3).

Nope. They'd have to get Batum and something else most likely.

I disagree. Why do they want batum? I think they would rather have babbitt, mathews and the nj pick. Jeff green should be back for them next yr.

Because Batum is better than all of the players you mentioned and Rondo is the only player who has any chance of being on their team in two years. They're not just going to dump him for the sake of dumping him, they'll want a return that can do something for them, or at least has the "p" word associated with it.

If we get the nj pick this yr it is much much more valuable than batum at 9 million per year

And Rondo's considered one of the top 5-7 PGs in the game and playing at all-star/near all-star level year in and year out. I'd say from their standpoint, to give up their one building block, they'd want Batum and the pick. Babbitt is a decent piece, but we're probably higher on him than other teams. Wes is a decent value. Nolan Smith is an absolute throw-in at this point.
