President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie. The deal is speculated to use the Kings full mid-level exception ?We?re excited to add a versatile player like John to our team,? said Petrie. ?He can play three positions. We feel he?s still an emerging player in the NBA. He?ll add to the youth and overall skill level of our backcourt, and I?m really looking forward to watching him play for the Kings.? Geoff Petrie appeared on KHTK-AM show Sportsline 1140 with Grant Napear and Mike Lamb to announce the deal and also clarify that the team would no longer pursue re-signing Bonzi Wells.</div>Well this comes to a bit of a suprise. I expected the Kings to continue to pursue after Bonzi. Definetly suprised that they signed Salmons. I thought he had probably screwed himself over by not going to Toronto.
what the F*ck is this sh*t? we dont need another guard... the last three years we drafted three. and garcia can play PG SF and SG. (p.s. petrie is the best GM in the league he obviously has something sneaky hes planning)
Salmons could probably be a back-up small forward Fabolus. I think he'll do okay. I wonder how much they signed him for.

Lucky for him though. He makes a big mistake and then he is rewarded by getting more money and instead of going to Canada he gets to go to Cali, wow...

The kid is a good versitile player, but the contract he got is foolish, this was a career year, but not good enough to merit that money.
Report: Kings sign G-F John SalmonsJuly 24, 2006SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) - John Salmons apparently has found a home. After refusing to go to the Phoenix Suns or Toronto Raptors in sign-and-trade deals, Salmons signed Monday with the Sacramento Kings, according to a report on the web site of the Sacramento Bee.Salmons came into the offseason as a restricted free agent of the Philadelphia 76ers, who had the right to match any offer he received from another team.ADVERTISEMENTThe four-year swingman had been offered $22 million over five years by the Suns in a sign-and-trade. Instead, the 76ers worked a deal with the Raptors in which Salmons was to receive $23 million over five years.Philadelphia was to receive a 2007 second-round pick and a $2 million trade exception as compensation, rescinding their rights to Salmons. However, he pulled out of the deal, claiming the Raptors would not have been a good fit for him.The 6-8 Salmons averaged career highs of 7.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season. In 281 games with Philadelphia, he has averaged 5.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists. The Bee also reported that the signing of Salmons means the Kings will not re-sign free agent swingman Bonzi Wells. The Kings reportedly offered Wells $36 million over five years at the outset of the negotiating period earlier this month.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Salmons' deal starts at $4.4 million, with 8 percent increases every season thereafter. The Kings, who are over the league's salary cap, used their midlevel exception to sign Salmons. They still have $800,000 remaining from the $5.2 million exception to sign other free agents. Petrie said he will be used as a point guard, shooting guard, and small forward, adding versatility to an already-versatile roster.</div>That is about 2 million dollars more than the Raptors offered him. I don't get it.
I guess the 6 years and 36 Million is what they offered Bonzi. Actually they got Salmons for 5 years and 25.5 Million. It is still a terrible deal though.
I don't understand what the Kings were going for with this signing. They have enough point guards as it is and Bonzi is alot better than Salmons will ever be. IMO this was a bad move but who knows..maybe the maloof brothers have a trick up their sleeve.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>They have enough point guards as it is and Bonzi is alot better than Salmons will ever be.</div> I agree with the Bonzi statement but care to tell me who else other then Bibby, Kings have at pg that are any good? <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I guess the 6 years and 36 Million is what they offered Bonzi. Actually they got Salmons for 5 years and 25.5 Million. It is still a terrible deal though.</div> Bonzi turned that offer down, so Kings had no choice and gave their MLE to Salmons. It's sort of like the Daniels signing Mavs did. But I think it came clear to Kings, Bonzi wanted more and they didn't want to give it to him. They better pull some sign and trade now though. Even though I think that's a given considering the teams who want him are over the cap. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I heard from Clutchcity that Rockets are trying to land Bonzi .</div> Whose involved?
Don't really know yet. They're just waiting to see what's going to happen first. The longer Bonzi goes unsigned, the higher the chance he will accept lesser money.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Salmons: "I Didn't Feel Toronto Was Where God Was Leading" 26th July, 2006 - 10:26 am Philadelphia Daily News - John Salmons chose an interesting way to explain why he decided to ultimately walk away from a verbal agreement with the Toronto Raptors . "Originally, I felt like I had to make a decision," Salmons said. "But I didn't really feel [Toronto] was where God was leading me..."It was hard to tell [Bell], but I had to," he said. "It took all the courage in the world. I had faith something good would happen, but I'm human like anyone else; I was still nervous. I tried not to worry. Joel was pulling out his hair. Then a couple days later, he told me Sacramento had called... I slept on it. It felt right."
