    You beat me to it. I'm not sure that any Republicans were against him being properly charged. I think that many Republicans fear a rush to judgment and question whether the situation is actual evidence of real institutional unfairness in this country.

    Politically, the prosecutors might be better off overcharging an innocent guy (and have him found not guilty) than simply letting him walk.

    I think the guy is at least partially guilty for putting himself in the situation in the first place... but I agree with this. The opportunity for a fair trial and actual due process went right out the window as soon as this case went viral.
