OK tonight was the first of a best of 5 series for the finals in a league i play in..we won, but I had a big problem. I had to guard a much bigger guy than me. I'm 5'7 140 lbs he's like 5'9 and 200. The 2inches height advantage aint nothing, but the weight and width difference is..he scored 10 points on me in a single quarter(8 mins).I was wondering if any of you guys have any tips for mismatches like that...the main problems are these:#1- Plain and simple overpowering. If he gets into a good post-up position, raise his team's score automatically. I just cant stop him. He's too fat [IMG] [IMG]#2- Seems no matter how much I box him out, he f*kin grabs the rebound :dunno:

Try one at a time! Or if you need to, borrow someone else's hand to do it.

If you miss, you're dead. However, if he catchs it, you're dead anyway. As a last resort, foul him...hard. Hopefully he's a bad free throw shooter. It's better to make him earn it, anway. Just as long as you don't foul out. If he's a perimeter player, try to slap at the ball. Even if you don't strip him, it'll at least make him more careful when he's handling the ball.As for rebounding...well, there's nothing you can do except get better position, and jump higher than him. To a certain extent you can predict where the ball's going to go, but not all the time. And if you're rebounding on the defensive glass, try not to let him push you under the hoop. If he does, he'll easily be able to get the rebound.

If he's putting a lot of his weight on you posting you up, just step backwards quickly and he should fall down. If he's fat, outwork him, when he's guarding you, sprint down the court and move without the ball to tire him out. That way on offense he'll be dogging it.

well he overpowers and its obvious so... why not flop? when getting in rebound position try to get under him by "accident" anything that get him in foul trouble. Thats playing smart. Ball Denial is a great thing too, if he cant get the ball he cant score you can do less work wait i mean "save energy" on defense. Use the energy to run around on the offensive end. Talk to your coach about the offense and what you think you can do against him.
