Friday, July 21stKeith Davis is going to be ready for training camp, however he will need to pass a physical to participate. Speaking of safeties, the Cowboys are looking at free agent Dwight Smith, who played on the 2002 Tampa Bay Bucs championship team, and played with the Saints last season. Greg Ellis has said he is "unhappy" about his role, but will report to training camp, this should make alot of trade rumors.Saturday, July 22ndWell all Cowboys fans can sleep better knowing that they will have one of the best tight ends in the game for another 7 years. Jason Witten who became the first Cowboys tight end ever to catch 65 passes in consecutive seasons will be locked up for 7 more years in Dallas. They still are working on extensions for Safety Roy Williams and Linebacker Bradie James. Roy Williams, one of the best all around defensive players in the league should be priority number 1 now since Witten is re-signed. Williams made great plays last year, an interception in the closing minutes against Philadelphia on Monday Night Football against the Eagles in a 21-20 win was the play that stood out the most. He gets critisized of his pass coverage ability, but this is the most consistent, best tackler, hard hitter in football today. He doesn't need great coverage skills, he has one of the best Cornerbacks in the league in Terence Newman, and a very good physical coverage Cornerback on the opposite side in Anthony Henry. Not to mention a great veteran in Aaron Glenn at number 3 who is used alot in the Nickel. Glenn showed flashes last season that he still has gas in the tank. Sunday, July 23rdSo Jason Witten is going to be getting about 4 million a year now. I wonder if Roy Williams, the next priority for Jerry Jones, asking price will be. Ed Reed got a huge deal, and people think he's going to ask for the same range. They are mistakin. Roy Williams is committed to this team, and I can't see a holdout, he's too nice of a guy. He loves Texas, and there's no way he is leaving, he's committed to the team, the organization, and the fans, and we are all committed to him. Expect to see Roy Williams in the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor and Hall of Fame.Monday July 24thThe Cowboys have a underrated secondary. In my opinion, they have the best cornerback trio in the league. They always seemed to be docked in rankings after Santana Moss scored 2 late TD's on Monday Night Football. But now that Anthony Henry and Aaron Glenn are healthy again, they will be a tremendous help to Terence Newman once more, and I think Newman won't get snubbed of a Pro Bowl again this year. Newman is a shut down corner, so what if he struggled in 2004, that's where he lost respect and attention, but did anyone look at that supporting cast? Now he has former Browns started Anthony Henry, and a former Pro Bowler Aaron Glenn to relieve some pressure, and that is way I think the Cowboys will definately have a top 5 defence, and a defence that is going to win us our 6th World Championship in '06.
Tuesday, July 25thThis running game can be very dangerous. If Julius Jones can stay healthy, he can really benifit from Terrell Owens being the defences' key focus. It's going to really open up the run game this season. If Jones does go down, he has more then a capable backup in Marion Barber, who had a great rookie year. The Cowboys have really estabilished a good 1-2 punch in the run game. And it doesn't hurt to that your number 3 running back is one of the fastest players on the team, Tyson Thompson. I expect the Cowboys to finish in the top 10 as far as running averages go.
Sorry I couldn't get these up last night, but someone broke into our backyard and we were talking to cops all night.Wednesday, July 26thWith the Cowboys ready to report for training camp, they have Jacksonville on their minds. What happens in the game will set the tone for the season. They have an extreme advantage in the pass defence game. Terence Newman will not have to lineup against Jimmy Smith, but Reggie Williams or Matt Jones. The Cowboys should make them one dimensional all game. However, Jacksonville still has a scary defence that can win a game on their own. It should be a great game that goes down until the last snap.
Thursday, July 27thMarcus Spears has a great chance of a breakout season. Why? With 10 starts, he looked better in every game. He is completely healthy now, and his knee is 100 percent. He will be able to move well this season, and with his size, should be a great fit. I expect him, and Chris Canty to really show their full potential and be great pass rushers and run stoppers this year. The future on the defensive line has arrived.
Friday, July 28thWell the Cowboys have arrived in California. That's the sign that football season is really back! Bill Parcells had a very interesting press conference where he said, "it's near the end and each game is precious". If the Cowboys when it all this year, I think Bill is going to call it quits. Greg Ellis is still here, although he doesn't want to be. A rumor was going around saying he will be traded to Oakland for Jerry Porter, so we will see if that holds true. Ashley Lelie is another name thrown in there. Al Johnson looks good, he's added the weight and we'll see if he can live up to his expectations of our franchise center. The defence looks sharper the ever, especially the front 7 where they are loaded with depth at the linebacker position with Bobby Carpenter, Akin Ayodele, Bradie James, DeMarcus Ware, Al Singleton and Rocky Boiman. I am going to make another prediction, and I hope this holds to be true, that Kai Parham will make the team over Scott Shanle. I really like Parhams game, and I think he could turn heads if givin the chance, he reminds me of a bigger Dat Ngyuen.
Saturday, July 29thThe first day of training camp, we have some good news, and some bad news. The good news is TO has become a fan favorite. After he scored a touchdown, the crowd started chants of, "TO." The bad news is that Marcus Spears left with a knee sprain. He had the same injury last training camp. He should miss 2-3 weeks.
Sunday, July 31stI am already sick of hearing his name, and we are only in the 2nd day of training camp. It's not his fault, the media is making him the center of attention, and the other stars are not getting any. I already of a headache from this. I will be rooting for #81 to help us win, but I can care less what his stats are, as long as we hoist our 6th Lombardi Trophy in 2006. Another note, Tight End Brett Pierce is out ir the season with a knee injury.
Monday, July 31stTight End Brett Pierce is out for the year injuring his knee. The Cowboys also made roster trims, cutting Linebacker JJ Horne, Wide Reciever Ahmad Merritt, and Cornerback Byron Parker. Bill Parcells announced that Tony Romo will see alot of action in the pre-season.
Monday, August 7thSorry I haven't posted journals, but my uncle was in the hospital and I didn't feel like typing alot. He is fine now. Anyway, today Terry Glenn didn't practice with painful blisters. Sam Hurd has looked good filling in for him. Dallas also cut Kai Parham.
Tuesday, August 8thThere is a 50/50 shot Tony Romo will start this Saturday in the pre-season opener at Qwest Field against the Seattle Seahawks. Terrell Owens is not expected to play, and is bringing in his own training staff to help his hamstring injury.
