It's annoying that we can't settle the free agency issue before the draft. I see us targeting a PG in free agency but we won't know if we'll get one before the draft. I would actually be surprised if we did take Marshall, just because I doubt the front office that invested a pick in Nolan will give up on him so soon. (They should, but will they?)

Now that the head of the three headed GM that made the Nolan pick is gone, it might not matter. They also might see Smith as a nice combo type guard off the bench

You don't pass on a better player because you drafted a guy at the same spot the year before.

Case in point: Sebastian Telfair/Chris Paul

I'll say it before and I'll say it again son....... Jim Paxson was an all-star SG, with Clyde as his backup.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You should always draft the best player available.

I used to be a draft for need type o guy........ but NO MORE! The CP3/DWILL draft soured me big time. I'm with you MM, acquire the most talent and let the coach deal with the egos.

Or simply trade the overstock of talent at one position for position of need.

With the NBA now, and players really being able to play multiple positions, there is never a need not to go with BPA

fortunately (or unfortunately) having to choose between best available talent vs. need isn't likely to be much of an issue this year, since we need to upgrade everything that doesn't duplicate what LMA does.

    Re: 2012 NBA Draft Prospects

Btw, I hope we don't send out too many smoke screens this year -- it's backfired bigtime back in 2008:

The Blazer used Serge Ibaka as a smokescreen so they can draft Nicolas Batum.

    True story.

I'd take Iblocka over Batum 11/10.

    Batum is too passive.

Perhaps, but Ibaka is a big man, leading the league in blocks in 27 mpg (and its not even close), and hes younger.

There both incomplete players that still have huge holes in there game. Nico is more rounded at the moment and they are both very inconsistent. Neither one is more then a role player right now.

Batum's ceiling may be higher, but he'll never actually reach it.

Where is this coming from? I don't remember it.

I do remember in 09 when we moved up to 22, everyone thought it was to draft Casspi, and we got Claver instead.

    Re: 2012 NBA Draft Prospects

It was from the rado broadcast on that draft day. Mike & Mike ran with that one.

The '10 draft everyone thought the Blazers were trading up/targeting Kevin Seraphin, every mock that day had the Blazers selecting him -- last year was similar with Kenneth Faried. Remember the Blazers wined and dined Faried in Lake-O.

If there is anything to learn from these "smoke screens" the player you're using as the smoke screen -- that's the player you should pick.

Baylor forward Quincy Miller told Yahoo! Sports he has decided to enter the 2012 NBA draft.

Miller, 19, now joins a growing list of college freshman in the draft that includes Anthony Davis, Andre Drummond, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Bradley Beal, Austin Rivers, Tony Wroten, Marquis Teague and Moe Harkless. The NBA deadline for early draft entrants is Sunday.
