Given all the HORRIBLE games he had pre-Kaleb, I'm really impressed with his overall PER this season.
about 90% of his minutes this year were post McMillan, so the post number wouldn't be that much higher than the 13.37. maybe 15ish.
You're severely underrating MDA after his stint in NY. That roster and his system had no chance. 07-08: 55-27 06-07: 61-21 05-06: 54-28 04-05: 62-20 Get him the right pieces (ie build the roster around his system) and he's a monster.
I've always said, once D'Antoni gets to the playoffs his teams are screwed. You need to play defense in the playoffs if you want a chance to be a legit threat. I'm not content just being masters of the regular season. Give me JVG over D'Antoni everyday and twice on Sundays.
The talent on his rosters were incredible. He never won anything of value with those teams. He is not good. If your goal is to be a regular season champ with no chance of a nba title, then sure, hire him
No defense scheme would help Nash, Amar'e, Diaw. Bell and Marion were the only players on that entire roster capable of playing defense. That's not nearly enough.
The talent flourished under MDA. You can't deny the stats before D'Antoni for players like Nash and Amar'e.
He hasn't known how to run a semblance of defense his whole career. He'll admit that. His philosophy is to try and put the ball through the hoop and stretching the games to as many possessions as possible. Shooters have free reign whether they suck, or not. Its almost a gimmick.
His pace was faster than other teams which creates.higher stats. Did those stats create a title? The guy had an elite defender this year in tyson chandler. He sucks and has nothing to show for his talented teams
Steve Nash Quentin Richardson Joe Johnson Shawn Marion Amare Stoudemire That is a ridiculously talented starting 5 Then he had a roster of Nash Bell Marion Amare Diaw Barbosa James Jones etc Again, a really good roster. That's essentially a big 3 with Nash/Marion/Amare Alvin Gentry took a Nash and Amare team to the WCF as well.
Back on topic, babbit looks like a legit nba player. Glad too see him being more comfortable out there. I expect him to be a big part of our bench mob next year
The key number for me with Babbitt is 46.8%, which is his 3-pt number. Unless he's expected to be a primary scorer, his PER doesn't really bother me, and his Ortg of 109 is nice. His defense, though...
