I would like to see him for a full season before the team offers a long-term contract. He's looked great but it's too short of a sample. Like D69 pointed out (Clubblazers) -- this could be a Darius Miles situation if we're not careful. Darius looked decent for half a season, especially his 47 pt outburst in Denver, and Paul Allen gave him an absurd contract. As a Blazer: 14.4 PPG | 7.9 RPG | 54 FG% | 30.7 MPG | 20.5 PER The potential is there -- he's only 23 and has that skillset we've been looking for in a backup big since Utah matched our Milsap offer.
The only flexibility we have I guess is to sign him to the Q.O. to make him restricted and hope some team doesn't offer big money -- same with Batum.
The Darius Miles thing has been pointed out here last week, and probably before that, if I can remember what I posted then. What is a D69, and why is he copying posters like me from this board?
You can't "sign" him to the Q.O. You can only offer it. It's not something you can force him into, though.
I guess I could see the comparison, but Miles never really lived up to the hype in LAC or Cleveland. Hickson was pretty good in Cleveland and was stuck behind a number of good front court players in Sac.
i like hickson, but he's a backup PF in this league and should get paid as much. we have needed a backup 4 for years though. but obviously you can't offer him starter money.
I'd rather match someone's offer for Hickson than Batum, because I think Batum is going to more overpaid than Hickson.
If we sign Hickson we just need to get another big in his/Lamarcus' level and we're good enough in the front-court for years. He might not be a starter but could definitely be one of 3 players getting almost every minute inside.
I think this is some serious contractitis. I would really like to S&T him for a real C or recently signed draft picks.
