The last couple days I've seen these two article/recordings from celebrities who supported Obama in '08, but are now unhappy with Obama's performance. Jon Lovitz: http://reason.com/blog/2012/04/24/funnyman-jon-lovitz-when-it-comes-to-tax Matt Damon: http://www.ijreview.com/2012/04/3880-celebrity-matt-damon-retracts-support-of-obama/ Not that this is exclusively true, but it seems like Hollywood tends to back the Democratic candidate. Might there be a change this election?
I hate shitty journalism. And this is nothing but. And just an odd and stupid article, IMO. The interview with Piers Morgan cited happened in March of last year. The comments in response from Obama....Honeymoon? Obama's comments come from the White House Correspondents Dinner. Which is basically a presidential comedy routine. Funny to see the journal complain about his use of honeymoon in a standup routine. Says the latest edition of Elle magazine. December of 2011. Wha? Is Elle a quarterly magazine? dumb, shitty journalism.
Wow. People didn't seem to like the post. Yeah, Jon Lovitz doesn't get much love these days, and the Damon article was bad journalism. That wasn't the point of the post. I'm just curious if other "celebrities" (is it better to put it in quotes?) will withdraw their support. I know the intellectuals on this board can think for themselves, but there are some people who are swayed by celebrity opinion. If prominent people retract support, others might follow. I'm not saying Jon Lovitz's twitter followers (does he have any?) mean anything, just curious if others have or will withdraw support.
Sorry D-Rock, didn't mean to detract from the intent of your post, just thought the article on Damon was shit. Also, am curious to see where either stand on who they will be voting for. Neither said, that I saw, they are voting against Obama regardless of who is opposing him. It's easy to be upset with what has happened, but still vote the same than someone you like less.
To be honest, I didn't know any of the information you stated about the article (Damon's statement being a year old and Obama's response being at a dinner party). That does put things into better context, although that wasn't what I was going for, as I said. That is a good observation that they didn't say they wouldn't vote for Obama even though they were disenfranchised with him. I suppose I incorrectly assumed that they were indicating that they wouldn't vote for him again. They could easily be unhappy with him and still prefer him to Romney.
So what if a few celebs jump off the Obama bandwagon? It won't make a 5 vote difference in the election. It's a non topic.
