...it'll just lead to heartbreak. Look at Faried. We convinced ourselves that he was to be ours. He should have been ours. And now David Thorpe rates him as the #2 rookie and our own Nolan Smith as #49 out of 50. Heartbreak.

I see a danger of this happening with Kendall Marshall. I want us to draft him. Lots of people want us to draft him. It makes perfect sense. He fills a need. He'll almost certainly be there when we pick. David Thorpe says we should draft him. That can mean only two things:

    1. We won't draft him.
    2. He'll be better than anyone could reasonably expect.

    Okay, three things:

    3. The player we do pick will suck. Or get injured. Or both.

    So save yourself the heartache.

Shouldn't this thread be titled, "Our front office sucks"?

Well of course our front-office sucks.

Back to Rasta's point. We wouldn't be true Trailblazers fans if we didn't get emotionally invested in a player and then either pass on him to our detriment or draft him and watch his body explode into a pile of bone-shards and gelatinous goo, so why change now?

    Marshall! ... Marshall! ... Marshall! ...

I am convinced we will trade our ONE pick (#11) along with something for a player

Who was the S2 poster who spammed this forum with pro-Faried propaganda months before the draft? That's right, Fez!

Worst draft since the Telfair draft.

Buchanan has the worst eye for talent.

Not only do we need a new GM the entire scouting staff needs to be replaced from top to bottom.

These are the kinds of results that happen when you let need trump BPA.....

Not that POR didn't need a b\u PF in the last draft...and instead he took a 6'3 SG...when the team needed a b\u PF or b\u PG or just generally a talent upgrade anywhere (BPA)...but no, Buchanan ignores those things...let us take an undersized SG, b\c he went to Duke for 4 years is a nice guy and uh....we think he can play some b\u PG for us (nevermind that nobody else thought that)....

Yeah Fez, Buchanan fucking sucks at evaluating talent...

49 out of 50 lol, someone ought to send a link to that to Buchanan.....

There's no player in this draft to love besides Davis

So I don't think there will be any problem with that

    For who?

The next generation of Raymond Felton?

Picks #7 & #11 in this draft have the very realistic capability of delivering starter caliber players to POR, possibly even better than that...and you would prefer to trade them for a mid tier player? Or are you harboring delusions of grandeur of getting a top flight all star caliber player?

POR needs to use both picks and then use thier FA money to go after solid rotation players...oh sure inquire\make a run at D-Will, maybe Nash, but do so knowing that it is likely a futile endeavor and be ready with plan 1A (ie the Dragic's & Hawes')....

In this deep draft it'd be stupid to trade out -- especially with this team in need of young talent.

Though, with Buchanan and Miller running things I guess it wouldn't surprise me. Making dumb moves is their forte.

If we can trade for proven talent with a pick, I don't see how it is a dumb move, over taking the chance at a possibility that drafted player becomes as good or better.

Remember, the "brain trust" over at One Center Court thinks it can retool and compete for a title next year. Rookies don't do that for you. They will use their one pick to try and find an established player who is yet another role player

You do have a flair for statement. I don't think anyone, including the brain trust, feels there is a move for a title next year. I do hope they feel tehre are moves to be made to get back in the playoffs.

I hope the brain trust isn't naive enough to think a #7 and #11 will get the Blazers back in the playoffs next year.

I'd have to go back and read carefully, but haven't Larry Boy's and Chad's comments all been about how the team will position itself to compete for a title next year?

Well maybe I'm wrong because I could actually see one of them saying something like that. With only 1 piece of a big three that seems to be the formula these days, not sure how they become contenders. Don't know too many lottery teams that the next year become contenders, only one comes to mind is SA. But if they want to set the bar, good, then it defintely means trading the picks. :)

I don't think they have a chance in hell of competing, but if they do, and I believe they have both said that, then they would most certainly deal the picks
