If they lose Deron and Wallace they will be horrible. But it still is top 2 protected.

The 3rd pick is still better than the 7th (if that's where we end up).

Yeah, top 3 next year could give a very good player (likely better than 3 this year). But, of course there are many scenarios where we could be well below #3 or NJ could get top two.

I found these on the Nets realgm board, obviously doesn't guarantee he's actually going back to the Nets, but it is better than going to the Mavs if he doesn't come here

Sounds like a whole lot of nothing. LeBron said all the right things too. Just have to see what happens.

Funny that G-Dub is testing free agency. I really felt like he would have opted-in, if he had stayed here. Tells you about his time in NJ.

Of course, we never know about the "behind-the-scenes" things, secret handshakes, and winks. For all we know, their owner told Gerald they want him back, but they want the cap flexibility first, and that they'll make it worth his while and re-sign him to a longer deal if he opts-out. It's risky, because if NJ were to back out of their end of the agreement, G-Dub loses. But it'd be a risk worth taking if I'm him.

Yeah the third might be better next year, but if they lose Deron like you suggested and Wallace and no draft pick, then they could very well be the worst team in the league next year and the 3rd pick may not be easy to obtain. It won't be a horrible scenario if we have to wait, but I would prefer not to.

    Yes, but:

Chris Paul is not a free agent. So, why is he mentioned?

Chris Paul has bum knees. Who knows how long he can play well.

Deron may not be as good as Paul, but he is by far the best free agent this summer, and the only one worth a MAX contract.

I would rather pay Deron a MAX deal than pay someone like Brook Lopez a near MAX deal, for example.

Simply because I'm thinking Deron might not be the savior that some people would think he is. He's been mentioned as one of the best point guards in the league, but in terms of making others around him better, I don't think he's on the same level as Paul.

Yeah, well, I think only Nash during his prime compares to Paul in that area, so it is pretty much an unattainable dream.

We can't get Paul without trading most of our talent away, which defeats the purpose. Besides, he has knee trouble.

Nash is old and out of his prime. Besides, he is and was a truly terrible defender.

    Rose is untouchable.

Deron isn't perfect, but he is a very good scorer, and has the complete arsenal to his game. Is a good setup PG. Has nice size. Can defend. Can play big minutes. He may not be the very best in the NBA at any area, but he has no glaring holes like a lot of players.

Deron is at least a free agent, and could be offered a contract by the Blazers. He probably prefers other teams, but you never know how these things play out and he just might accept the offer as being best for him.

Was it already mentioned? NJ just lost the lottery tiebreaker to Sacramento.

Not if Sac jumps into the top 3, then our luck is extremely good, especially after our own pick jumps to #1.

You know if Sac jumps into the top three that pushes the NJ pick to 7 right?

Why? If Sac is 5 and jumps into top 3, there's still only 5 teams ahead of us.

If we jump to #1, that would be a miracle. We have less than a 1% chance at it.
