I was super bummed he got hurt just before his minutes would have increased dramatically, I have not forgotten as he has big time potential

Sadly, I fear that E-Will's (style of play) + (his slight build) = (injury-plagued career). But I hope not.

I really think E Will (pending no injuries) can be something very special in the NBA. So far, he hasn't proven that he can stay healthy in college or the NBA. No wonder he dropped to us. I am seriously crossing my fingers on this guy.

My point is you can't eliminate players because they have had injuries. Yes of course there are those with huge red flags that it would be wise to stay away from. (Those who have had micro fracture surgery on their knees) But you can't guess on who MAY get injured. Many people thought Durrant's frail body had a bigger chance of breaking down before Oden's. Dejuan Blair has not missed a game in three seasons. You just never know. I would not write off Eric Gordon.

I look at Gordon and see a guy who played in 95% of his games, then 75% of his games, then 68% of his games, and finally this last year played in only 13% of his games. This last one due to a knee injury that required surgery.

Why isn't Williams going to play in Summer League?

I thought they wanted his shoulder to get as much recovery time as possible?

So we are back to the Rose and DWill scenario. I would still sign Rose coming off his upcoming knee surgery. You would obviously pass.

Eric Gordon had arthroscopic surgery this season to clean up his right knee, he came back and still averaged 20 pts a game. I would certainly give him a thorough examination and I would not give him a max deal, but I would still pay him.

    Let's see....Elliot Williams...

Shown some good offensive ability in limited time....

Undersized for the shooting guard position....

    Can't stay healthy.....

So here is the problem with some of the fans here and apparently POR mgmt....This is not a player that you want to have to count on for production....Therefore if he does stay healthy and if he does con tinue to show good offensive ability or more with consistent minutes, then the team overall is better for it....

b\c you didn't base your strategy on a bunch of fucking what if's.....

Instead you went out and drafted or acquired a SG or S and moved Batum to SG and then anything that E.Williams gives you is gravy....

THAT is how you build winning teams....Not by plugging a bunch of what if's into holes and hoping they work out....

Isn't that what I said in the next sentence? " Yes of course there are those with huge red flags that it would be wise to stay away from. (Those who have had micro fracture surgery on their knees)"

I totally agree with this statement. If E Will pans out and injuries are finally behind him, then it's a bonus. Just don't build your team thinking he's going to have those injuries behind him. I think we should have learned our lesson from Roy and Oden. Prettty much sums up your statement and proves how fucked our team got when they couldn't be counted on.

Not just microfracture though, I'd steer clear of anybody who's had ACL repairs or achilles tendon injuries or a history of bad feet, etc.

If E-Will pans out...he will be an exciting sixth or seventh man. Nothing to plan your team around but a guy worth keeping.

So just to ber clear, if Chicago called Portland today and offered Derrick Rose and his huge contract to the Blazers for Nolan Smith (and basically cap space) you would say..........sorry not interested?

    I didn't say that.

What I am saying is that I wouldn't pay full freight for a guy with serious injuries in his past.

Thank heaven we aren't building around a guy who has had serious issues, like multiple hip injuries and heart problems.

    oh...wait....

serious issues? the heart kind of but surgery fixs that and its not a surgery that. has ramifications for bball and two minor hip surgerys are both minor. his one in college was considered a lot worse.

I don't get why everyone is screaming oh he's got serious issues with staying healthy yes he's had knee surgeries on both knees but the reason why he got hurt this season wasn't because of his knees it was because of a freak block that made his shoulder pop out. If he had, had another knee surgery then yeah id agree with everyone but i don't think he's even close to the injury prone that oden was/is on or anyone else for that matter.... i think Ewill will do just fine, just hope he gets the burn he deserves...
