Crawford I could live with. Not The Golden Ticket but he has matured into a solid 6th man and with Rose at the point could start at 2 and be successful. I loved Mayo coming in to the league but I don't have a lot of confidence in him -- but concede he has the possibility of being a quality starter. As Denny points out, Evans is sort of a jack of all trades -- which screams to me great 2nd team player, not starter at 2.
SST, good and thoughtful stuff. You're higher on Shved than others I've read, but a lot of that's old. Seems he's been a Euro "to keep and eye on" for quite a while, but there's not much buzz this draft. Is it possible that he just ain't coming over? TB with some straight-on basketball analysis...nice. With regard to possible Bulls' acquisitions, I'm generally not keen on projecting players on other teams into a role on the Bulls which they've not demonstrated an ability to fulfill where they've been. I also believe that defense is half the game. This is why I was so positive about the Hamilton signing. I pretty much still am, but I'm concerned that, for whatever reason, he never became someone in whom Thibodeau has confidence.
Mayo started his first two seasons, starting and playing all 82 games both seasons, 38 MPG (Deng type minutes). He averaged 18.5 and 17.5 PPG those seasons on .438 and .458 FG% and .384 and .383 from 3pt, along with 3+ APG and 1+ SPG. That is the role he's demonstrated he could fill on another team. Tyreke Evans started 72 games as a 20 year-old for Sacramento his rookie season, averaging 20.1 PPG with 5.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists on .458 FG%. That is the role he's demonstrated he could fill on another team. (I'd love to see our SG produce like those guys have proven they can) In unrelated news, Vinnie Del Negro is coaching in the 2nd round of the playoffs. He came REAL close to coaching in the 2nd round for us, too (remember that great 1st round series against the defending champs, Boston?)
