It'd be great if we had a healthy Roy/Oden/Rudy/etc, but yeah...with this squad he's not the right choice unless we land a superstar in Free Agency. (Goran Dragic is not a superstar). But say we do land PhilJax....would that make Deron kind of think a little more about playing in Portland?
Thats all this is. his way of saying (to NY) hey, I'm interested, but you have to pay me more money. I would love to have Phil Jackson as the coach, but in reality, he wouldn't come to Portland for all the money in Paul Allen's couch. If I was Paul, I'd offer him anything he'd want. GM AND Coach? Sure. 30 million for 2 years? Sure. All the pot you can have? Yes.
Phil Jackson coaching the current Blazers is even less likely than Deron Williams signing with the Blazers. If he coaches again, it will be in Madison Square Garden as the coach of the Knickerbockers.
Phil doesn't coach a team unless they have one or more of the top five players in the league. I could see him going to Miami if they don't win the title this year. Riley is going to be impatient and either he'll can Spoelstra and coach the team himself, OR I think he'll go after Phil.
Funny thing is that LeBron spent 7 years in Cleveland, Anthony 7 years in Denver, and Paul 6 years in New Orleans, and they both went past their rookie contracts to stay in those small market cities before moving to bigger markets. 20 combined years, zero titles in small markets for that group.
There ain't enough players that can play his game on this roster. Perhaps if Roy was still here with Nic and maybe the edition of Nash to help run the triangle it would be. But the team lacks some pieces for that to be efficient. I agree with the one poster. He will probably be back in LA some place. With the Clipps, most the likely the Lakers where his girl friend is at.
The word on PJax used to be that he couldn't rebuild. But he did rebuild. His Lakers won championships with Kobe/Shaq and after the rebuild with Kobe/Gasol. I think he'd take the job if he was GM, too.
LA lost the finals in 2003, then missed the playoffs or 1st round exit for 3 seasons (winning 34, 45, and 42 games), then won a championship again in 2008. 5 years it took.
