Everyone had that fear Eric, but nobody actually thought it could happen to us twice.

I hear you. Even with the fear, I still wanted Oden. By the way, how good do you think we'd be now if we had taken Durant? Would we still have ZBo?

I didn't think that until I read the ESPN article where a lot of GM's and their doctors red-flag'd his pre-draft physical.

I'll admit it, I was raiding in World of Warcraft when my brother came upstairs screaming that we were in the top 3 so I got up left my room and went down to watch the end of it on TV.

I was watching on TV. When the Blazers landed in the top 3, I thought OMG are we going to get Oden? I was holding my breath. I really wanted Portland #1, Seattle #2, Atlanta #3. Couldn't believe it worked out that way.

Logged onto forum, it was at a crawl because everyone wanted to post! I posted that for the first time in the history of the universe, everyone on the board, including Shooter, then called Talkhard and me, were in agreement. I recall Talkhard, saying he loved me. I mean, that will sure never happen again.

In retrospect, that truly fantastic moment in time really sucked.

You know I was pacing back and forth in my living room freaking out. What a great day. It's really too bad it didn't work out

Great moment for any Blazers fan! But a very sad ending to all the dreams brought on by that day late last year!
I was at that draft party with other friends/fans. Like many of you, was willing to hope for landing Noah before the lottery that year, but obviously, afterwards was a Honk Once kind of guy after that moment.

What could have been? What if we'd landed #2, kept Zbo, etc. Much better off than we are today.

I was sitting in my car, about to go to class, and I let out a huge shout when I heard Atlanta at #3. I was delighted with either of them. (Just as I was a few years earlier, when we could have had the leftovers of Bogut/MWilliams/Paul, but obviously to a greater degree).

I don't think that the drafting of Oden was as big a mistake as drafting of Bowie. While it turned out that Oden was less valuable than Bowie, I believe that Oden was a superior prospect to Durant, while Bowie was inferior to Jordan. The Blazers should have taken the best prospect available both times, and we would have ended up with Jordan and Oden.

I remember scaring the crap out of my kids by jumping up and down in the living room like a lunatic. They truly though I'd lost it, and for a few delirious minutes...I had indeed.

And really, I have to ask if that feeling isn't all that much different from watching your team win it all at the buzzer? I mean, as far as a feeling of pure ecstatic, wild abandon.

    It was sheer joy.

In retrospect--talk about the rug being pulled out from under. Wow

I do remember saying that I kind of wished we had #2 so we wouldn't have to make the choice, and I got scolded for being a wuss.

That's actually what Chad Ford (or maybe it was Simmons) said before the draft. They said we would have been better off getting the second pick because realistically Durant was the better pick for us, but that we couldn't NOT take Oden with the #1. I remember reading it at the time and somewhat agreeing with them. While I thought Oden was a great choice, I also thought taking Durant and keeping Randolph would be a good choice as well. At the time I thought a lineup that included Roy, Durant, Randolph, and Aldridge would be amazing.
