http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7...rancisco-49ers-alex-smith-cam-newton-comments I'm not a huge Smith fan, but he played a lot better last season and I think adding Moss, Manningham, and Jenkins will help a lot.
Boo fucking who. He's right. And everyone has been bagging on him and he just takes it and uses it as motivation. The guy is very bright and a hard-worker. Don't care what anyone says, he is a huge reason for the Niners 2011.
Kind of pathetic that he rips on a rookie QB who just had a season Smith could only dream about. If he was "forced to throw" like Newton was he'd have at least two picks a game.
I don't really see it as ripping Newton. He was making a point about how he doesn't think total yards is the most important thing in the world. He used Newton as an example of someone with really good stats, but very few wins. It's no different than someone saying Kevin Love is a stat padder on a shitty team. Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of Smith, and I was hoping we would get Manning, but he isn't terrible. The Panthers can talk shit, but they won't be in the playoffs next year and the Niners are a front runner for another chance at the Super Bowl.
I Smith was highly controlled last season and your defense or gore did the heavy lifting. I think they try to pass a lot more while giving smith more opportunities. I think smith has a harder time this year.
