Mayhem Miller was released by the UFC following an arduous three-round decision loss to CB "Fart-face" Dolloway at UFC 146 over the weekend. However word got out after the event that Mayhem was already in trouble with UFC brass for an altercation in the tunnel leading out to the arena floor prior to his fight. According to Mayhem, he had a mask on, and a paper bag over his head hiding it. Long-time UFC hype man and "babysitter to the stars" Bert Watson, perhaps the most beloved character in the company, objected to Miller's attire. Mayhem said he was trying to concentrate on the fight and didn't appreciate or take Watson's advice, which grew to be a demand. After the fight went pear-shaped for Miller, he got back into it with Watson on his way backstage, then hurled profanities and litter at CB Dolloway when both fighters were receiving their post-fight medical exams. I guess you have to have a certain level of ambivalence if you're a UFC executive hiring guys like Rampage, Mayhem, and Tito Ortiz. As good as they might be for business you have to know you'll get bitten eventually. Or was Watson out of line trying to dictate Mayhem's (trademarked) entrance?
For the record it's not exactly clear whether Watson wanted Mayhem to remove the paper bag or the gas mask, or both. Miller wouldn't have been the first guy to wear a gas/training mask to the Octagon.
Approaching a fighter moments before the fight and distracting him over something that minor seems unwise.
So there I was, adjusting the paper bag I had on over my gas mask, you know--FOCUSSING--and this guy starts jawing at me.
They shouldn't be bothering guys on the way out to the ring, even if they are doing stupid shit like Miller, Lawlor, and the like do. Let them be. Of course, this wouldn't have happened if Miller hadn't let Dolloway lay on him for 15 minutes.
