Also, this kind of gets back to the earlier issue about Martin writing about 13 year olds doing all this crazy shit. Some stuff works well in print and doesn't make for great television when you actually have to see it laid out there. Dinklage is the star of the show and he already stands out in contrast to the conventionally handsome actors throughout the show. They didn't really need to mangle his face to drive home the point.
Dinklage just won himself another Emmy with the 'Blackwater' episode, IMO. He was fucking awesome in it, and the authority that he relayed as Tyrion during the wildfire and battlement was just incredible acting.
I watched his "Let's Go Kill Them" speech 3 times. It was on the same level as what I saw from Russell Crowe in Gladiator, or Mel Gibson in Braveheart. Just very cool to see an actor I've long admired get his due. If only the books turned out differently for him, but that wouldn't be GRRM, would it? Even the aftermath of this battle just sucks for him, because without Tyrion's wildfire, they'd have lost King's Landing long before Tywin could have done anything about it.
Well, that was ten or so hours of damn good television. Sucks how long we'll have to wait for another season. As good as the battle was last week it meant we had to spend the season finale catching up on everything. Scatter-shot episode but still enjoyable. The White Walkers looked cool in a kind of World of Warcraft cutscene way, which is to say fake as hell. We've been doing zombies with masks and makeup for decades, hasn't it worked so far? Jaqen did this. And now we have Breaking Bad and a whole lot of nothing until the fall. Ugh.
Can't wait for season 3. After reading the third book it made me realize how little ultimately went on in the 2nd book. Mad Men went out with a bang last night too. Stoked for Breaking Bad. I'm going to get into The Wire and Oz this summer I think so hopefully that holds me over. Workaholics just started at least...
I think the books will turn out just fine. I wouldn't be shocked if he, John Snow and Daenerys Targaryen are the three riding dragons north of the wall before it is all said and done Ed O.
Speaking of my hypothesizing: anyone else think John Snow is a Targaryen? Haha. I just googled it and someone else came up with the idea years ago, too. That means it's fact, right? Ed O.
lol this thread always scares me because I think I might run into a major spoiler. Starting the fourth book once I'm done with finals next week... But at this point I think Stannis is going to get the throne and then die somehow, leaving Davos as the acting king of the realm (since hes Stannis' hand)!
Breaking Bad is the shit. The final season should be bananas. Sucks that they are splitting it up South Park-style but it will be great anyway. GOT is the most exciting and richest show on television but Breaking Bad is the best crafted and most intense.
Well, if my theory is correct (and I think that it is), there are hints (especially in the first book or so) but nothing definitive. Ed O.
So few good characters I like left..... Hopefully more of the Blackfish in the next book...and Jon Snow? Also, I wonder if Rickon starts to become a more important figure in the book?
