Cap space is going to be gone after Batum anyway, unless we want to let him go.

because there have been enough decent white centers that to say you don't want him because he is white is just like MM saying he doesn't want a player because he's from Syracuse. again, i'm not a fan of zeller, but if you can't see the similarity in your arguements then i'm not sure what else to say.

I don't want him because he's a big, white, unathletic player, and based on the history of other big, white, unathletic players I don't think he's going to work out. I didn't say that I would ignore someone JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE WHITE. I said history shows that guys who are similar to Zellar that were taken in the lottery don't usually turn out to be a good pick. Period.

centers of any color don't usually turn out to be a good pick, again RACE has nothing to do with it. at least we both agree we'd pass on zeller at 11.

Ignoring race is ridiculous. Race has something to do with everything, it doesn't make a person racist.

I'd be tempted at 11, depending on his workout on measurements. Would Joel of 4 years ago, but a better offensive game, be worth an 11th pick? I think so. Zeller did average 9.6 rpg in a decent conference, and with a lot of talent on his own team. His blocks are a bit low, but they had John Henson playing weakside defense. Plus, Zeller is an 81% FT shooter, which is nice for a low post player.

I'd rather throw money at Hawes and draft a guard.

I'd rather not waste cap space on Hawes, and pay Zeller a rookie contract. Getting Hawes away from Philly is going to cost some money, and you'd probably have to overpay for him, because I assume the Sixers would match a reasonable offer. Zeller isn't going to be an All-Star, but then again, neither is Hawes.

Hawes is a known commodity though. Zeller could be the next Chris Mihm.

Could be. I'm just not as opposed to Zeller as most, simply because I don't want LMA playing center. That could all change once workouts commence, and we get some more information on Zeller.

so what does the awful % of black centers drafted in the lottery mean? maybe it means race has little to do with drafting the "right guy" and more with the crap shoot of taking bigs.

Why aren't you bashing on the white guy? The one time I need you to back me up and you're in the wind...... way to let me down FAMS.

i'm not high on zeller, but i wouldn't be hugely disapointed if they took him either. i think he's a fairly safe pick that won't blow anyones socks off.

I've been preaching about this for years on here. I thought my opinion on this subject was known.

It sounds horrible, because I am 1/2 cracker myself, but you need to stay away from white guys in general. Every now and then one slips thru the cracks and becomes a good player in the league but the success stories are far and few between. Of course there are more black guys that are busts because more of them are drafted. Just stay away from 'em....... Morrison, Luke Jackson, Joe Alexander....... the list goes on and on. Sorry, but it is true.

Now the whole "Don't pick a player because of where they went to college" thing is a whole 'nother story and I'm not sure where I stand on this, but whitey has let us down too much lately.

I'm still convinced that Nedzad Sinanovic is the answer!
