Former NBA player Orlando Woolridge was pronounced dead in his parents' home on Johnson Street in Mansfield at 11:20 p.m. Thursday.

Desoto Chief Deputy Coroner Billy Locke said Woolridge, 52, had been under hospice care for a chronic heart condition.

The 6-foot, 9-inch Mansfield High basketball star played collegiate basketball with Notre Dame, where he was a member of the 1978 Final Four team. His professional career began in 1981 when he was drafted in the first round by the Chicago Bulls.

My HS friends and I called him Orlano (SIC).
