Very interesting thread. Thanks. By the way, you nailed exactly who I want to draft 6th and 11th with Lillard and sulinger. Any Likely second rounders jump out at you.
I'm really curious about Jae Crowder. He came out as number two on this list, but I think that's an anomaly. He's the Big East player of the year. I guess the knock on him is that he's undersized for a small forward. I think he'd be a worthy risk in the second round. I would love to see Will Barton around when we pick at #40. That guy really resembles Lamb, physically and stats. I think he's underrated. Another guy that may be around in the second round that I would be interested in taking a shot at is Marcus Denmon. A good scorer (17.7 ppg) and well rounded (5 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.5 spg and only 1 fpg & 1.2 tpg) on a very successful Missouri team. In the second round you're not looking for an all star. Just a solid backup contributor that can fill a role. Each of these guys have flaws, but I think they would be worth the risks.
Tony Wroten, imo, is going to be that PG that 5 years from now people go "how did he last to #25 (or whatever)?" I'd love to get him. 2nd round: O'Quinn, Kim English, Plumlee?
You think he makes it to the 2nd round? Most of the mocks have him going late first. But he is interesting.
Agreed. Barton is my #1 target for the Blazers. I think he will end up being the best SG in the draft. I am also very high on Crowder. He will be a better player than Wes. He will end up being a solid starter for sure.
Uhh... For what pick? I haven't looked at his advanced stats yet but WOW is he skinny: 6'6" | 174 lbs.
I would target him around #18-20. In THIS draft, I am a proponent of trading down & picking up some vets. I don't see much difference between pick #6 and #25. Barton is also the same size as Lamb. No one is saying Lamb is too skinny. I think Barton has a strong all-around game - which I think will translate very well. In the past drafts, I targeted within Portland's range were: 2006: Roy (& stay the hell away from The Stash), 2007: Was really torn between Oden & Durant 2008: I liked Hibbert the best, but we just drafted Oden... 2009: Ty Lawson 2010: Elliot Williams or Pondexter 2011: Faried, Reggie Jackson, or Darius Miller
If Jenkins made it to the 40th pick, that would be an excellent pick up for us. This program has him at #12, and compares him to Allan Houston, Wesley Person, and Anthony Peeler. I'm guessing he'll be gone by then.
Tony Wrotten is an interesting one. This program has his at 32. It compares him to Bryant Stith, Bob Sura, and Rick Fox. If he's going to succeed at the NBA level, he'll have to clean up his turnovers - 3.8 assists to 3.9 turnovers. I'm guessing a team will grab him somewhere between 25-35. This program has Kim English at #35. It compares him to Kenny Thomas, Lucious Harris and Anthony Parker. Not a bad second round choice. He'll probably be available when Portland picks at #40.
Over the past couple of weeks, I've been working on refining this program. I've modified the players available in the selection database, and it now has over 600 players that it uses as a comparison. I've uploaded the newest files. Here are the top 25: 1. Anthony Davis 2. Jae Crowder 3. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 4. Damian Lillard 5. Jared Sullinger 6. Draymond Green 7. Royce White 8. Terrence Jones 9. Bradley Beal 10. John Henson 11. Thomas Robinson 12. Terrence Ross 13. Tyler Zeller 14. Dion Waiters 15. John Jenkins 16. Will Barton 17. Moe Harkless 18. Tyshawn Taylor 19. Arnett Moultrie 20. Marcus Denmon 21. Quincy Miller 22. Kendall Marshall 23. Herb Pope 24. Maalik Wayns 25. Perry Jones Others of note: 29. Austin Rivers 33. Andre Drummond 34. Tony Wroten 37. Meyers Leonard 38. Harrison Barnes 39. Jeremy Lamb My thoughts: Lillard's numbers are solid, even taking into account his age and school. Sullinger is ranked high, but his medical situation concerns me. Being a Blazer fan, I can't handle any more injured players. Royce White really intrigues me. He could really be a sleeper. Bradley Beal and Thomas Robinson's number surprised me a bit that they came in as solid starters. Nothing more. I guess that is good, but you would expect more being drafted in the top 4. Jeremy Lamb's numbers really dropped as compared to the previous results. I'd be concerned with drafting him. Austin River's came in as a 'backup'. His 43% fg is not impressive. Harrison Barnes is the biggest surprise for me. Quite low. Jae Crowder's number look solid. He's still in that #2 slot. I have a hard time believing he's the second best person in the draft, but I am curious to see how his game will translate to the pros. I'm changing my vote - If we keep #6 and #11, I'm hoping for Damian Lillard and Royce White. At #40 and #41 I'm hoping for Jae Crowder and Herb Pope. I don't think John Jenkins or Draymond Green will drop that low. Tomorrow should be fun!
Radical. Cool. After the draft, post that final mock with 2 new columns, actual draft position, and difference between actual and your prediction.
