This always seems to be a knock on him. I understand people wanting to use it, but it should be just as easy to shy away and do very little when surrounded by 3 vet HOFs, instead of leading a team. I don't see Mario Chalmers looking like a top 5 PG, and he has 3 very good players in Lebron, Wade and Bosh around him. If all it took was being surrounded by 3 top players, shouldn't Chalmers be in the discussion of top 5 PGs? Maybe Rondo is a very good player.
before his insane playoff performance yes. Now I doubt it. I think we end up with Dragic or Lillard now. Would love to package 6 and 11 for TRobb and try and sell Williams on a linup of D Will Wes Batum Thomas Rob LMA hard lineup to turn down if he wants to win now. Sent from my LS670 using Tapatalk 2
I think that's part of the point. The fact that he thinks he can drill the outside shot and inability to listen to his coach; causing me great concern. He seems like a person that only listens to himself. We had a player like that before (Sheed) and his techs used to cause us a lot of pain.
He takes less than 1 3pointer per game I don't believe he thinks at all he can drill it, or he would be taking 3 a game.
Ya know, this cracks me up. Every year the team that plays hard and gets deep in the play offs, well, they become the flavor of the month. Suddenly fans call for us to build a team, or chase a player to try and become that other team. What most miss is that seldome is the best team built like the one before it. It takes more than a roster, it takes drive and heart to win. By fall, guys will be sayin how great the guard play is for OKC..everyone will be callin for a three guard lineup.
I'm talking less about how good he is/isn't and more about team dynamics and how his ego might become more of a problem when there aren't so many strong personalities around him.
I don't see people saying "Let's build a team like the Celtics." I see people saying we should acquire their PG, who happens to be one of the best in the game. I consider it wise to pursue the best players in the league, when/if the opportunity arises. Don't you?
Rondo is not The Answer. They're the same size, but this new guy makes shots only when great willpower strikes him like lightning. Less than a year ago, we dumped Andre Miller because he's not a great outside shooter. Now we want a hobo version of The Answer?
Maybe not, but there's not many (3 or 4) I'd rather have on my team. A triple double threat who plays great defense, led the league in assists, isn't too old, has a ton of post-season experience, and has a bit of nasty as well. Yes please. I wish he could shoot better from the outside and FT line too, but oh well. Not like we'll get him anyways.
Ok, you dont see that this year. yet. But look at all the years past. SA wins and all the rage is to be like them etc etc etc every year. NBA teams react rather than become. Fans are the same way. I dont think of him as one of the best players in the league, or even at his position. His performance over the last few weeks reminds me of how stellar Miles played before his big contract..
I agree. Rondo (though a very good player) isn't the answer for the Blazers. First, he would cost too many assets to acquire. Second, he has a major hole in his game (shooting) that cannot be covered by our other players. That's all. Would love to have him if he were free, but we need more talented players and he'd cost us too many.
This. Also, whomever talks Rondo I would expect Ainge to try to pawn off the elderly Paul Pierce for a full rebulid. No thanks.
How is it covered in Boston, then? Allen is a great shooter, outside of him, our top shooters(Batum, Matthews, and even babbitt) are better than anything they have. Pierce, Allen and Pietrus were really the only 3 guy s taking 3s on their team. Pietrus shot 33 percent, Pierce 36.
What he did in his career doesn't matter a lot if he can't shoot now. Rondo's 2 biggest apg years, the past two seasons, have coincided with some of Pierce's worst 3 point shooting. Again, Boston found a way to spread the floor just fine for him.
Is Rondo a good player? Yes. Is Rondo a great player? I don't think so. He is very good, but not "great". Rondo is a very good player, who has become overrated because he has been on a good team with other very good players and been in the playoffs a lot and had several very outstanding series. Folks remember those spectacular games and think he is a "great" player. Rondo is a very good player, who has become overrated because of the cult of the triple double. The triple double is a gimmick stat. By itself, using it to compare very good to great players against each other is worthless. Rondo is not improving. He was a better player several years ago. Hard to believe, but true. Rondo is a pain in the ass. He is hard to coach and at times disruptive to the flow of the team. If he was a great player (see, James, LeBron), then, really, you don't give a shit. If his production level is Rondo level, then, I think, it becomes a pretty big negative. On the Celtics you had the big three who are strong personalities who can corral Rondo and are less affected by his crap. On most other teams that won't be the case. Rondo being a pain in the ass and hard to coach, having a big flaw in his game that has to be worked around, and being not as good as some folks seem to think (thus not unexpendable), has had Boston trying to trade Rondo for years now. They haven't been able to find a deal where they can get equal value to what he provides to the Celtics unique situation. Which is fine. But, if Rondo was all that, why do they keep trying? Is he a Top 5 Point Guard? Maybe. But, that is the wrong question. The Blazers don't need a Top 5 PG. They need more talent. If they could get Rondo (talent) as part of a Boston salary dump or for future picks, then sure, get him. Boston won't do that. They big value for Rondo, or they will just keep him as a core piece. Portland overpaying (Aldridge, or the #6 and #11) doesn't do the team any good.
