It's a pretty inspiring story. It's also pretty depressing that this story is much more likely in most of Western Europe and Canada than it is in the United States. The American Dream isn't really American. The solution, clearly, isn't just tax cuts and deregulation. But it's also not just throwing more money at poor people. The first things we have to do is determine what we will do with the welfare society, ie, the entitlement mentality. Next, we have to stop promoting class and gender warfare for political gain. Until we get a handle on that, we will stay mired in muck.
We have to provide food and shelter for the homeless, and oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights, while also promoting equal rights for women. We have to encourage a return to traditional moral values. Most importantly, we have to promote general social concern and less materialism in young people. {Poasted via palm pilot}
