"After calling up left-handed pitchers Evan Crawford and Aaron Laffey to bolster their bullpen, the Jays needed to ship out two bodies. Reliever Chad Beck, who took over for the injured Brandon Morrow on Monday, was one of the players going the other way. He was optioned to triple-A Las Vegas. The other expected move was that Morrow would be placed on the disabled list. However, the Jays were still running tests on Morrow, who suffered a strained left oblique Monday in the first inning of Toronto's loss to Washington, and instead also optioned infielder Yan Gomes to Vegas. "It was just one of those things, left-handed bat between (David) Cooper and him and we talked about (Mike) McCoy and the fact that he can play both (infield and outfield)," general manager Alex Anthopoulos explained."
