1x$9.95M + 4x $2M > 5x $2M But realistically Denny, if teams really think Crash is only worth $2 mill a year they sure as hell aren't going to sign him for 5 years. I think he's worth $4-5mill a year easily. He might even get a 2-3 year at $6 mill per.
he will get a 4 year contract. 4y 30m or even 25 is a lot better for him then staying because of how much of a beating his body takes every game.

He will not get 9.5 - but he will get 4yrs with at over 7. My guess is it will average around 8.5 (4-yr/$34mill)

Maybe he has enough money and doesn't like living in the NYC area? Maybe he doesn't like the management? It must still really sting for the Nets. Sounds like somebody didn't do their homework.
I hate when I see comments like GW's about not being willing to play on a 1-year deal, thus the opt out. It's not a 1-year deal, it's the last year of a multi-year deal! Damn spoiled athletes.
Nobody ever mentions Shawne Williams. We had to eat his $3+ million dollar contract. Add in the cap hold for the #6 pick and the Nets saved around $6million in cap space this offseason. If Wallace walks for nothing they have what, $40 million in cap room? Don't get me wrong, I love the trade for us. But Brooklyn could end up with a much better roster then us in a few weeks, there are many variables still in play.
Still - while the Nets are saving money.... that team needs some players. Losing the #6 sucks for them.
He can lock up a longer contract right now, it would be a stupid financial move to risk that to injury, bad team, athletic decline, etc. Don't hate on others just because they're successful. NBA players get paid what they deserve. People are willing to watch them and buy their product so just like an artist or actor or musician they are worth what the market will pay.
I don't think that contract is a big deal, at least to people on here. Heck they are willing to take on Okafor's contract to get #10...getting 6 for Williams contract is a steal!
I only agree with that reasoning if he can get a significantly better contract now than he can get a year down the road. Otherwise, it's a worse move by walking away from $10M guaranteed this year. And if he can't get a similar contract a year from now, then I doubt he gets very good offers this year, because that means teams realize he's near the end and won't want a long-term commitment, anyway.
