No question about that. I mean, were it not an election year this "policy shift" would never have happened. However, it also makes sense to do this. It's long overdue.

just encouraging more illegal immigrants. yay.

probably won't have much of an effect anyway other than to show that the US tolerates this behavior and it will continue on, good or bad. probably will make the US is a sanctuary country. more illegals, no way to track them, flooding the overcrowded schools with kids who have a limited grasp of english, etc. just wrong over all.

no it doesn't make sense. its idiotic and only encourages more illegals to come over. would you want your kids in a school with a high percentage of illegals, non-english speaking kids? it'll slow down the entire class as they overcrowd the schools and have to teach bilingually in the name of "diversity".

So basically Congress doesn't pass the Dream Act and Obama says "fuck it" and passes it anyway in another form? This guy.

bet this goes over well for the unemployed knowing the market just gets flooded with more people eligible for work.

I'm not sure the millions of college grads entering the job market are going to be thrilled about adding another 800k to the labor force, but I'm sure Oblame-a polled it, and at this point, bypassing Congress to do this made political sense.

Because the only thing that matters to OBlame-a is getting re-elected, no matter how much of a dictator he turns into to pass his unpopular ideas.

Illegals and their legal relatives all vote dem anyway. This will cost him votes, not gain votes.

It will also add another huge barrier to economic recovery, and stoke the fires of racism that seem to be growing.

The GOP is making small gains and this will probably not wipe those out, but snag some of the independents as well. Obama is a very shrewd politician and this is a very shrewd move. Gotta take your hat off to him. He knows how to get votes.

So he's doing unpopular things in order to get re-elected.

    Your theory makes no sense.

If he can register all those illegals to vote, it might be a plus for him.

can someone smarter than me say if this is a states' rights thing? I mean, if the FBI catches someone they can choose to deport them or not based on Obama's orders, but if Joe Arpaio pulls an illegal immigrant over for speeding--out he goes, right? Or does everything have to go through federal ICE so the President rules?

They sure as hell wouldn't vote republican anyway. I see no benefit to him voterwise. He'll lose more than he'll gain.

Laws are laws and selectively choosing which ones to enforce and which ones to ignore and which races of people to prosecute and which races of people to let break laws with reckless abandon could easily be construed as treason. Or racist. Or an arrogant abuse of power. Or an over-reaching of authority.

But every President since Eisenhower (except Carter and Ford maybe) has escalated the stakes, with Bush and Obama taking it to ridiculous extents. They would all have been impeached and jailed if our government was truly what it says on paper.

I do not claim to be smarter than you, but my guess is that deportation is a fundamentally federal action - AZ doesn't deport someone from Arizona, rather the US deports someone from the USA.
