This thread primarily centers on Noah - according to Hoopshype, the Bulls are looking for a trade exception and a 1st round pick for Noah. I say give them the 11th pick and absorb Noah's contract. Draft Lillard. (Although, they may not go for that, so I'd counter with 11 and a second rounder, possibly both second rounders - as they are very valuable, considering they will be towards the beginning of the second and don't have guaranteed contracts. I'd hate to part with the sixth, but I could do it if we found a way to still land Lillard.) We fix our gaping hole at center with a strong defensive presence and rebounder. Lillard Wes Batum Aldridge Noah Doesn't look half bad on paper, honestly.
i don't think you can give them just the 11th.... i think at minimum they'd want the 6th.... 11th isn't enough for noah
Noah would be great. Deng is a big meh for me. I'd rather have Batum; better 3 point shooter, a few years younger, and very similar ability. I think Deng is a little more consistent scorer and defender, but I don't know that he is much of an upgrade for a rebuilding team. I'd take LD over Batum if we were trying to contend now.
And soak up all your cap space. Not interested. Dollar for Dollar deal would be fine. Of course, they aren't looking for that.
Don't care much for Deng. Just want Noah. 11th and change? I'd sacrifice our FA money for Noah. 6th pick is a little tougher. If we could trade 11th + Freeland or something to move up far enough to get Lillard, I'd be ok with it, but that really depends where Lillard falls.
Yeah, we lose our cap space but fill one of our more glaring needs... not sure why that's a bad thing... Noah is arguably better than anyone else we could add in FA, anyway.
Not even. Using the cap space on Noah. You are settling with mediocrity. Using the cap space on Williams, Hibbert, Gordon, you are settling for championships. I like Noah but not at the cost of the cap space.
Not getting Williams. (Apparently its solely between Nets/Mavs) Not getting Hibbert. (Pacers will match any reasonable offer - and we'd probably lose Batum if we did give a reasonable offer, that wouldn't be matched I.E. overpaying Gordon apparently will be matched, no matter the offer. So you'd rather risk POSSIBLY getting Hibbert (and losing Batum) instead of taking Noah? Interesting. Noah also has a higher PER than Hibbert.
For the Blazers to trade all their cap space and the 11th would be giving up a lot and doesn't make sense for Portland in my opinion.
When he's healthy. I think we just waived a center with a high PER last season because they're no good if they can't play 70+ games a season.
Salary cap question. If the Blazers were to hold on to the rights of Batum and Hickson and then sign someone to the max contract. Could you take one of the two, sign and trade them for another player, if it puts you over the cap. Or can you only go over the cap by signing and keeping them?
Horrible. When Babbitt and Nolan are your primary backups you know your roster is a LONG WAY away. Neil needs to accumulate young building blocks/prospects and build for two/three years down the road. Right now this roster is nothing but fodder outside a few pieces When you factor in everything (Noah's age, contract, fit, CBA) this shouldn't happen. At least, I hope Neil isn't that stupid.
This could be possible, but who would you target in FA that would provide you with Noah provides? I'd argue that Noah can provide us more than our 11th pick + FA could provide us. BEST CASE w/o trade: Dragic as a FA, Lillard, and whoever we get at 11, for this, Rivers. So Dragic, Lillard, Rivers maybe Zeller. Best case w/trade: Lillard, Noah. Dragic, Rivers or Noah... Pretty much boils down to Noah or Dragic and Rivers(maybe Zeller - really depends on what happens on draft night) ***I'm extraordinarily high on Lillard, so yes, that plays a HUGE factor into what I believe we should do.*** If we had a legit chance at Gordon, D-Will or Hibbert, that would change things, yes, but I do not believe we do.
Lillard - Nolan (I'd prefer Flynn, honestly, but I'd try to find a way to swing for Andre Miller, but doubtful after the first go around) Wes - Elliot Batum - Babbit (I'd use one exception on Matt Barnes) Aldridge - Hickson - Shawne Williams Noah - Pryz (
I would do 11 and all cap space. Noah would be great next to Aldridge and the sixth would still be there. Reup batum and bring over Freeland. Spend all remaining picks on guards.
That roster is, at best, a middle-of-the-pack team. Looking at Noah (or Deng) is such a myopic way to build this roster. Debating these 'quick fixes' with this roster is asinine. Have you not factored in the new CBA? You don't add role players (Deng/Noah) who'll take a huge chunk of your cap when you don't have a legit first-option on offense. Come on!
The Blazers don't have any cap space at the moment. Until July 1 they're operating under the 2011-2012 team salary and they're over the cap. The only way they could trade with the Bulls for Noah would be if they throw in enough salaries to meet the salary matching requirements of the CBA to take on Noah's $12M in salary. Something like Matthews, Babbitt, Kurt Thomas and the 11th is what you'd be talking about. IMHO, that would be stupid.
I guess I subscribe to the theory you don't need a dominant, traditional center to win in the NBA. Look no further than the NBA finals who had Kendrick Perkins, who was a limited offensive player making $7M a year and Miami who had a PF playing out of position that is no bigger, strong, or more skilled the LMA. To me, our resources (FA money) would be much better spent at other positions.
