Huh? I remember rumors going around that Toronto was looking at trading Calderon. The team was openly fielding offers for him. Besides, the truth still is that he is no longer a 1 trick pony. The guy only shot 3 FT's a game last year in 22mpg.
If you think shooting 42% from 3 doesn't add to his arsenal I don't know what to tell you. That was his biggest weakness with us.
No, his biggest weakness was that he was a short shooting guard being asked to play point. That hasn't changed. He just doesn't have a PG mentality or court vision.
Pick that could have been CP3 in 2005 -> Pick that we used on Jarrett Jack -> Pick we used on Bayless in 2008 -> Pick we might use on Damian Lillard in 2012. So if we pick Lillard and he ends up better than CP3 all blazer fans everywhere have to forgive the Blazers for screwing up the 2005 draft?
11 ppg, 4 apg in 22 mpg. Give him 36 minutes per game and and he'll average around 18 ppg and 7 apg. I know per 36 isn't the best stat, but couple that with 42% 3 pt shooting and a 18 PER, I'd take him on our team any day. Is he not europey enough for you? If his name was Sergio Rodriguez I'm sure you'd be all over him.
The Chris Paul pick was traded to eventually get Jack and Martell. Of course, without the Jack pick, perhaps Portland would have never been in the position to draft both LMA and Roy in the same draft. Then, the Blazers would never had had Luke Babbitt, or LMA, or the chance for the #1 pick when Greg Oden was picked.
