Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Montpellier and France striker Olivier Giroud.

The 25-year-old is with the France squad at Euro 2012 after playing a central role in Montpellier's domestic title success last season.

A £12million move has been on the cards for weeks, with several clubs interested including Borussia Monchengladbach.

However, Montpellier coach Rene Girard revealed earlier in the week that Arsenal were leading the chase for Giroud and suggested the forward's priority was to move to the Premier League.

Hopefully the M'Vila deal gets done soon and we sign another defender. We'll be looking pretty good.

Don't expect Wenger to splash out on a keeper but I think that might be the weakness heading into next season. I like Szczesny but he isn't a first rate keeper yet.

    GK Szczesny, Mannone, Shea
    RB Sagna, Jenkinson, Yennaris
    FB Koscielny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Miquel
    LB Gibbs, Santos
    HM Song, M'Vila, Coquelin, Eastmond
CM Arteta, Rosicky, Wilshere, Ramsey, Diaby, Benayoun (?)
    RW Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain
    LW Podolski, Gervinho
    ST Van Persie, Giroud, Park

Sold/loaned: Bendtner, Djourou, Vela, Squillaci, Chamakh, Fabianski, Miyaichi, Lansbury, Frimpong, Denilson, Arshavin, Campbell

Re: Update: Wenger confirms signing of Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud

    Update

Montpellier HSC have sold star striker Olivier Giroud to the Arsenal for an undisclosed fee, thought to be about or just under £12-million, according to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger who says that he's "90%" going to be an Arsenal player next season.

Giroud, 25, helped Montpellier fend-off giants Paris St-Germain to capture the Ligue 1 title and qualify for Champions League football. Giroud lead League 1 in scoring with 21 goals, tied with Nene of PSG. Giroud also lead the team in assists with 9, good for sixth overall in the league. Giroud was one of four Montpellier players named to the UNFP Team of the Season.

At 192cm, Giroud will be one of the tallest strikers in the Premier League. Unlike most players coming from Europe, Giroud seems well-suited to the physicality of the Premiership, having established a reputation as a dominating presence in the front field.

Giroud has eight caps with France and is currently with the national squad at the European Championships.

Comparisons to Marouane Chamakh are inevitable but Chamakh was never the prolific scorer that Giroud has shown himself to be (he's twice netted over 20 goals in a season).

Montpellier are supposedly interested in taking Chamakh off our hands so it's possible that will be part of the deal.

With Podolski, RVP, and Giroud up front, we have three left footers. Pretty unusual.

Montepellier won't be taking Chamakh, nor Bordeaux. Supposedly the Moroccan is happy in London.

    Giroud signing confirmed by Arsenal.com.

Pretty easy to see what Wenger is doing, here. Take goal scoring burden off RVP. Get a setup man who can actually score once and a while (sorry Gervinho). Get a big target man in the middle.

Still need another defender, midfielder, and possibly a keeper, but we're on track.
