Want Some Zach? It seems that the player the Memphis Grizzlies want to move is not Rudy Gay, rather it’s Zach Randolph. The problem is, Zach is owed $16.50 million this upcoming season and has two years after that worth $17.80 million and $16.50 million as a Player Option. The Grizz may want to move Zach, but that’s a massive contract for a guy that’s not exactly the slimmest guy in the NBA. Where did they get that information? This is the first I'm hearing anything about Randolph being on the block, and it's from a website that doesn't cite any sources. The thing that really bugs me about this article is the following - Yes, he makes a lot of money --- because he's worth it. The Grizzlies were well aware of how much money they were signing him for when they inked him two years ago. They gave him that much money because he deserves that much money. The author may have forgotten his value because he was out most of the year with an injury, but there's not that much difference in the value of a Kevin Love and a Zach Randolph. And the jab at his waistline? Yeah, the guy's pudgy. He's always been pudgy, but has that ever held him back? It's almost like the article implies that he has the contract of a Rashard Lewis and the fitness of an Eddy Curry, but the reality is that a year ago, Randolph posted averages of 20.1 ppg, 12.1 rpg, and 2.2 apg on 50.3% shooting while leading the Grizzlies past the #1 seed in the playoffs. Regardless, if this were true, it'd be one of the worst moves in franchise history.
