I think the poster over exaggerated that, but the point was clear: JJ makes the Blazers a much more exciting team to watch. He had highlight-reel plays in every game. It's nice having someone like that on the roster getting some serious PT, whether or not the player has significant impact on wins/losses.

I should have mentioned that the premise that he has bounced around is false, so the 5 wild guesses are moot.

Hickson was last season's Gerald Wallace, unstained by McMillan, so he played harder than everyone. Wallace learned McMillan's system, so he slowed down the next season, but that problem's gone, so Hickson wouldn't. Even if he did slow down, he has trade value as Wallace did.

Three teams in under two seasons is bouncing around. Especially if you're WAIVED BY ONE OF THEM.

This may come as a shock but PER is not the be-all-and-end-all of basketball.
You do remember how we acquired Hickson, right? He was WAIVED. Clearly the Kings were ignorant of his amazing PER.

LeBron left, Cavs dumped their team. He screwed up in Sacramento, who doesn't. He was very good here.

Same might happen to Batum. You don't evaluate a player on how he played with the Sacramento Kings for half a season. What's next? The Nets show us The Way and we all follow?

"JJ Hickson - the leading scorer on a team that went 1-7 after LMA shut it down for the year"

Yeah, break the bank on that guy.

I'll point out that not offering Hickson the Q.O. may actually increase the odds of re-signing him, but when jlprk gets on a roll, it's futile to point out why the Blazers made the decision that they made on Hickson.

He was very good on one side of the court. He got O-rebounds and made some highlight plays but the guy is lost on defense. He is the definition of that 15m banger you want coming off the bench making hustle plays but never out there long enough for his big weaknesses to be exploited by the other team. He looked worse then Babbit did on D and thats saying something. He is going to want a big payday too.
Its not a new thing either, even with Lebron their Cleveland fans bitched and moaned about his Defense, but since he was so young it was overlooked.

I think this goes all into the whole thing that Olshey has been saying about blowing all your money right away. Why devote 4.4 million to this guy right away when you don't have to? He's a hustle guy yes and provides a lot of energy but not essential. He's not going to "move the needle". If he can get someone to give him 4.4 mil a year then good for him, if not, we'll get you at 2-3.

I'd rather pay Hickson 4 million than pay Batum more than 10 million. Without a doubt.

Because you can't find more bang per buck from the FA list--of the 1 or 2 who would even consider us. This is an experienced starter, cheap, who actually wants to be a Blazer. They are very hard to find. We keep throwing away our assets and never improve.

Who was better than Hickson after he arrived? I honestly can't name one other Blazer.

He was the best hustler; he probably lead the team in scoring; and he was very consistent.

    And he's young.

I think, if we can sign Hibbert and Batum, we make Hickson the next priority. If we still have any cap room, then we find a vet - someone like Billups, to teach Lillard.

    We'll be very solid.

In order to sign Hibbert to a max offer we will have to renounce the bird rights of Felton, Crawford, and Hickson.

If Hibbert is matched, we can regain JJ rights however

Very good information, assuming Hickson doesn't sign a UFA deal on Day One, which seems almost impossible.

    Repped.

Surprising. What's the deadline to un-get rid of him? Can we keep him waiting all summer?

If I sought popularity and ever repped anyone, it would be you, so take my rare praise as a moral victory, pat yourself on your delighted back, and go out and get drunk. Tell them jlprk sent you and you might get a free drink or two.

I think since we didn't make a QO to Hickson he is now an UFA. If we renounce his rights we lose bird rights, so we can't go over the cap to resign him unless we rescind the renouncing because Hibbert is matched. He he can sign with another team whenever he wants. Did I get this right?
