We also will have some cap room even with the outstanding Hibbert offer, but that will completely disappear if we match Batum. So if we want to for instance sign Freeland or Claver with cap room it will have to be done in that 72 hour window. That is if we intend to keep both Hibbert and Batum.

Those are my questions as well. If the league processes one signing before another, does that order matter? That seems extremely stupid to me. I have to think it's not a matter of everybody running to a fax machine in a sprint on the first day of signings just to get first in line, and then as the signings come in, each team is progressively fucked over more than the one in front of it. That makes no sense, and I can't see how anybody would want that in a CBA.

That can't possibly be true. So teams' futures now depend on who has the faster internet connection? There must be some sort of grace period. If not, the most important job of the summer is hiring a guy who can send an email/fax faster than anybody else in the NBA.

The NBA front office is going to be swamped on July 13th (or 14th which it is) with all the signed offers. I would be surprised it it was based on the minute it arrives in the office. That means teams would be relying on clerks and fax machines to determine what came in first. What if the line is busy? Actually I would hope they have newer technology than fax machines but I have no idea how these offers are submitted.

Regardless you would think it is based on the day not the minute.

I hope it's not "the day" because that pretty much guarantees that we're in an either/or situation with Batum and Hibbert.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Not at all. That means Indiana can decline to match Hibbert, Portland signs him under the current cap space, and then Portland can either decline Batum's offer or match it. You have that day to make all of those decisions on matching, and your own RFA's cap hold stays intact throughout the day. The important part is getting Hibbert to sign a contract on Day One, but that seems like a foregone conclusion. It shouldn't matter if Nic signs with Minnesota that same day, even if the league processes it 30 seconds prior to Hibbert being processed.

Jaynes has to be full of shit on this one. It makes no sense otherwise.

it seems odd though, because you could have a sort of lovers triangle, say....

indiana signs gordon to an offer sheet
NO signs batum to an offer sheet
portland signs hibbert to an offer sheet

    who blinks first?

Portland wins that triangle, IMO. Center trumps wing players every time

Already sent my resume in. And, obviously, the person who sends their resume in faster will get the job. It's the entrance exam.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

Yeah that could be very odd. Lets say Portland won't match if they get Hibbert, Indy won't match if they get Gordon, NO won't match if they get Batum. So all of the team teams decline to match? But what if the last minute NO does decide to match, then do all of the teams match?

The only way this matters is if your decision to match is changed by your signing. So will we change our decision on Batum based off Indys decision toward Hibbert? Now if the answer is yes, we would change our decision, then first knowing the status of Hibbert would have an enormous advantage.

With this important of a job they need some redundancy! Hire 8 or 9 of us to all send in this contracts at 12:00:00.00001 am on July 11th. Old hank is also out in the barn with a carrier pigeon. If we get Bob Jones to cut the power at the NBA office my cousin Judy could get a telegram first in line. Beat all them fancy new fax machines.

I was honking once and wanted it to work for him here too. I think the old rational of size winning out is losing favor though.

that whole premise is fucking numb with idiocy

first off its premise is incorrect

secondly, asking him to wait to sign his offer sheet?

One of Neil's goals is to collect assets; It may be in favor for both MN and POR to work out a sign and trade.

Though, outside the obvious only Derrick Williams intrigues me. Had a mediocre rookie season but had similar advanced stats at the same age as Nic.
