Source tells PBD that the Bobcats, Nets, Warriors, & Trail Blazers have contacted Andy Miller about interest in JJ Hickson.

But he's not worth the money, he's bad at defense, and the Kings cut him. How could Blazer management think the posters in this thread are dead wrong?

If we are able to grab Hibbert, then why not extend an offer to Hickson? I would love to see a rotation of Aldridge, Hibbert, Hickson and Leanord. That is a very formidable front court.

Yeah I'd be interested in that as well. I’m not sure if we should pencil in Leonard for anything he is going to be raw. But Aldridge, Hibbert, Hickson would be a nice 3 man unit. I’d like to see LA and Hickson play together against some second units. It just depends on how much money JJ is looking for, and if we’d rather try to sign Freeland first instead. It sounds like Freeland wants to have a defined roll with the team, so we may have to choose between one or the other.

We probably have to wait until we see if Hibbert is matched and if we retain Batum. If we have neither player we need to find a starting center before we tie up money with Hickson. We might only want to take on 1 year deals in that scenario so we keep flexibility for next off-season.

It's a wing league, remember that

Mavs won with mediocre wings, against two stud wings.

    It's a talent league.

Bulls had the best record 2 seasons in a row, most recently with Rose and Rip Hamilton missing half the season (each) - that's their starting back court - and with Deng injured and playing like crap since before the all-star break. Why? Because they have Boozer, Noah, Asik, and Gibson; that's FOUR quality bigs for depth.

Granted, you aren't winning in the playoffs without quality wing players, too.

Yeah, me too. I thought that the cap space was more important than keeping Hickson's RFA rights. The Hibbert offer kind of validates that school of thought.

Only if we get Hibbert. If we don't, then we gave up Hickson for nothing.

Father forgive them for they know not what they do.

You don't think God is testing us? Well has it occurred to you that many of the signing decisions will be announced on a Friday the 13th?

    Just a coincidence?

I like Hickson, but I won't be heartbroken if we lose him. The seemed like he was all raw physical talent and very little actual skill.

He couldn't cut it on the Cavs or the Kings. Hickson shined here while we pilled up one of the worst post trade deadline records in the league. I'd be interested in keeping him as a backup, but I'm glad we arn't offering him anything this early in free agency.

Hickson is like my old 4 cylinder 1978 Mustang II. It looks kind of cool, but it is really just a reliable car that can get you from point A to point B. Nothing more, nothing less. Is it a good starter car? Sure, but there are plenty more out there like them.

... Who is about to become a well-paid power-forward and I don't think the Blazers would have fared all that well playing he and Aldridge side-by-side. Instead we get to take a gamble on a very good center who can play next to LaMarcus.

But let's say that Indiana matches, that means another craptacular year as LaMarcus rehabs back into form, Lillard hopefully learns on the job, Leonard gets a lot of PT and we dip back into the lottery to refresh the talent pool ... maybe they even trade LaMarcus for picks or other players at that point?

All the while, JJ Hickson will be a half-remembered, fading distant memory, barely anchoring a 30 win Bobcats team.

I think a lot of you are viewing Hickson as a grass is always greener type of guy. For example, if the Blazers were pursuing 24 year old player X who had stats of 15/8 while shooting 54% from the field and had a PER of 20.2, I'm not sure any of us would complain if it were close to a max deal?

I don't hate Hickson, but all I really saw while he was here is a guy who plays at one end of the court, his defense looked pretty bad ... and his on-court, off-court numbers kind of back that up. http://www.82games.com/1112/11POR11.HTM

I am not saying I disagree. Just pointing out that the grass isn't always greener.
