    Olshey has been the double-secret GM for almost a year. He was not supposed to leave the Clippers until after he had blocked CP3 to the LA Lakers. His cover became compromised during the playoffs and a high risk extraction was executed.

    I tend to agree with you, actually. In another thread I stated that it's more important to have a low post presence on both offense and defense regardless of position. I think in this case Hibbert trumps both Batum and Gordon

    I wouldn't pay Batum $12M or $11M. You might do just as well drafting SFs for the next 3 years and playing the position by committee of guys cheaper than the $11M.

    You've got a young SF who can shoot in Babbitt.

    I'm tired of losing my favorite players. Batum would be pretty close to the straw that breaks the camel's back. I want Hibbert and I think he's a more important player than Batum but there's no way I could get as excited about him. It's like a (very) poor man's version of Ginobili (or Parker, if we're keeping the French theme) and Duncan (isn't Hibbert also from "The Islands"?).

    I agree, letem go if he gets 11-12 mil per, especially if we don't get Hibbert. Wes can play "some" SF, if we want a cheap basic guy we could probably get Wright from GS or pick up a much cheaper guy in FA

    Rose is an MVP candidate, elite player, worthy of MAX contract. The CBA even has a Rose rule in it that allowed him to get paid big bucks. You can't say the same thing about Batum. In fact, the Blazers could do just as well at SF with a guy like Chase Budinger for considerably less money.

    I think that's partially true, but there is something to be said for a monster front-line as long as they are paired with at least one elite wing. So while it's true that this year's finals featured two small-ball teams, the Lakers in very recent memory wouldn't have gotten their recent championships without Gasol and Bynum.

    So I haven't waded through this whole thread, but did anybody ask themselves if this 12 mil/year figure was really coming from Minny? Something tells me this came straight from Batum's agent, if it was coming from Minny, wouldn't Nicolas have already come to an agreement in principle, because that is mad money right there ...

    That's a good point, with some guys like Hibbert, Wallace, Asik already agreeing to specific offers I have to aggre with you that what Nic's offer really is is likely up in the air, especially if he is flying there today. His agent could be pulling his usual crap.

    I keep hearing its 4/45. Pretty big contract but unlike Denny I think Batum's defense (even though holligner hates it), the fact he can guard 4 positions, warrents this kind of contract since were offering Hibbert a Max. I'd rather work out a S&T with Minny for Derrick Williams (who I think can play 3 in the NBA) but in lieu of that i'll keep Batum at an overpriced bid to win now.
